General Comments on the quiz:
(let me put this part first so that u guys go thro it:))
Dev Alok:> Now if you may allow some constructive criticism over here.
I do not know who Sami, Chetan and Ashok are and would care less if
those people are Shankar Jaikishan haters and Naushad lovers. Use of
their names in a quiz which is intended for thousands of people, I feel
is not appropriate. May be these people are well know gurus on RMIM
and you used their names in clue to give an atmosphere of closed knit
family. Well enough of constructive criticism.
Snehal:> I wish, you could have come up with songs of Mukesh picturised
for some more actors. For example (whatever I recall now):
Motilal, Rajendra Kumar, Jeetendra, Mehmood etc.
In fact songs of Mukesh on Mehmood are really good. For example title
of Pyase Pacnhhi. Also a lovely Usha Khanna composition for Shabnam
(1966).
Malini + Balaji:> somehow, we didn't find even distribution of songs.
In the duet section, there was an overdose :) of Lata duets. There are
a number of female artistes who got opportunity to sing with Mukesh,
like : Suman Kalyanpur, Usha Mangeshkar, Sharda, Kanchan, Kamal Barot,
Shamshad Begum etc etc.
Neha:> one can possibly never have an overdose of Lata...:)
Anand Tiwari:> Kamlesh has a small complaint (a teeny weeny one) that
some of the best songs of Mukeshji were not included.
Anup Pandey:> 1) You have too many Raj-Kapoor songs in the movie.
well, its now my turn to complain :) esp. as I could'nt guess some
of his songs. You could have included Mukesh solos for other stars like
Shashi Kapoor, Shammi Kapoor, Jitendra, Raj Kumar etc.
2) You did'nt include good clues for some of the difficult songs. If
you deliberately did it to separate people like us from experts, I must
tell you(pause..) your plan worked :-)).
Vandana also complained about there being only one Asha song in the duets.
Neha:> Everyones complaints are noted...but chitrahaars are difficult
to set considering u are supposed to know the whole story, plus the
picturisation...This was the best i could do...while trying to keep it
simple...and easy... As far as his duets with other female playback
singers....if it were a RJGK sure i wud have...cause I have heard many..
but for chitrahaar i cud clue only the ones i knew with Lata...for
prayschit i am ready to do a RJGK on his duets...:) Maybe someone can
do a quiz on Mukesh-Duets in future where s/he can include all the
female singers I have ignored.
In fact many of my all time favorites of Mukesh arent in the quiz...
The songs i wud have clued...had i been able to get hold of a video
of their respective movies, I have posted separately...
"kamana":> Films and film music are inseperable so why not make guessing
the name of the film a secondary requirement of the Chitrahaar quizzes.
I have had email discussions with Ashok ji on this and he too agrees on
this point.
Neha:> We do have a separate newsgroup RAMLI for film related
discussions and RMIM is a forum for discussion on music.
It was fun reading the comments...had to edit most of them..(warna meri
comments kahan jaati:))afterall a post can be only so long:))
So here are the answers with participants' comments...
First, some solos....
(1) I really dont want to start with a SJ-RK combo (just in case I tick
off Sami, Chetan, Ashok and other Shanky-J bashers:))...so I'll start
with a Mukesh solo for Salil Chowdhary (his first death anniversary is
also coming up). This movie has been discussed recently on RMIM. This
song shows Rajesh Khanna (also in the title role) on a piano while
Amitabh Bachchan and Ramesh and Seema Deo listen. The song starts with
the first word recited and the song/music starting off with the second
word. Lyrics by Gulzar. I know everyone will get this song..isiliye
saarey stats de diye:)
Song : Maine...
tere liye hi saat rang ke sapne chuney....
Movie : Anand (1970)
*ing : Rajesh Khanna, Amitabh, Sumita Sanyal
MD : Salil Chowdhary
Lyrics : Gulzar
Chetan:> I am lodging a formal complaint against calling me a SJ-basher.
Neha:> Chetan, laakh chhupaao chhup na sakega...raaz itna gehra...
(go to clue no. 9 and u will see what i mean:)) In any case,
I apologize for my error.
Ambrish:> If Ashok were to ask me which are the 10 movies I woud prefer to have
when I am marooned on an island, my answer would be simple - 10 copies of the
video cassette of Anand and 10 copies of the audio cassettes of Anand.:-)
(2) Now I can come to Raj Kapoor (minus Shankar Jaikishan for now). This song
(also a solo) starts off with Raj Kapoor playing a sarangi...A beautiful piece
of music followed by the song. Mala Sinha and Mehmood co-star. Mehmood is RK's
brother in this film. Their parents are trying to fix up Mehmood's marriage to
Mala Sinha and she and RK love each other. He gives up and later sings this
song about how the paths of life are full of tears. While babies, Raj Kapoor
and Mehmood get mixed, so their parents do not know who their real son is. But
they "bring up" both the kids because they dont want their son to be deprived
of love.
Song : aansu bhari hain...ye jeevan ki raahein...
koi unse keh dein...hamey bhool jaayein...
Movie : Parvarish (1958)
*ing : Raj Kapoor, Mehmood, Mala Sinha
MD : Dattaram
Lyrics : Hasrat Jaipuri
Sanjeev:> I'm trying to imagine Raj Kapoor Playing a Sarangi :-)
Shammi Kapoor should be accompanying on tabla...
Satish Kalra:> (MD Datta Ram was SJ's assistant, for many yeasrs even
after becoming a full fledged MD himself.)
(3) Singing for Khaiyyam, this song is one of Mukesh's last few. We see
Amitabh singing it in a college function. Rakhee a part of the audience
starts penning down the lyrics as Amitabh sings. (this in itself, I
think, is enuff of a clue:)). The same song appears again at the end
of the movie while Rishi and Neetu get married, but with different
lyrics.
Song : main pal do pal ka shaa_ir hun...
pal do pal meri kahani hai...
Movie : Kabhi Kabhie (1975)
*ing : Amitabh, Waheeda, Shashi, Rakhee, Rishi, Neetu
MD : Khaiyyam
Lyrics : Sahir Ludhianvi
(4) Manoj Kumar, Mala Sinha and Shashikala....He is singing a song in
some hills (foothills of Himalaya i guess:)) about her being just as
he had imagined...Mala Sinha and Shashikala are both overhearing this
song and their reactions naturally are equal and opposite:).. Mala is
trying her best to sharmaao and be happy... while Shashikala is highly
irritated. Lyrics, here, are by Indeewar.
Song : chaand si mehbooba ho meri kab aisa maine socha tha..
haan tum bilkul waisi ho...jaisa maine socha tha..
Movie : Himalay ki Goud Mein (1967)
*ing : Manoj Kumar, Mala Sinha, Shashikala
MD : Kalyanji Anandji
Lyrics : Indeewar
(5) Based on a historical queen of Mandu, this movie stars Bharat
Bhushan and Nirupa Roy. They are apart and he is asking her to come
back cause without her, his music is barren(?). It appears as a tandem
song in the movie, the other one being a Lata solo. If you still didnt
get it...the lyrics are by Bharat Vyas.
Song : aa laut ke aaja mere meet...
tujhe mere geet bulatein hain...
Movie : Rani Roopmati (1961)
*ing : Bharat Bhushan, Nirupa Roy
MD : S.N.Tripathi
Lyrics : Bharat Vyas
Preeti:> "Rani Roopmati" is my #1 Desert Island Soundtrack! If you are
stranded on the desert island with 9 other Indian doodes granted the
permission to bring along only one cassette each, you better take this
one. Overall, the music is heavenly, and you save yourself from being
tortured to death by the nine copies of "Madhumati" floating around.
Satish Kalra:> (MD S.N. Tripathi..who also gave 1957's top song of
Binaca Geet Mala..Zara saamne to aao chhaliye..)
(6) A background song this one. On screen, Dev Anand, Suchitra Sen,
Achala Sachdev and Nasir Hussain. Scene being the bidaai of Suchitra
Sen. A beautiful song in which a stanza expresses beautifully feelings
the bride might have when she is married (of no one being her apna).
Song : chal ri sajani...ab kyaa soche..
kajra na beh jaaye rote rote...
Movie : Bambai ka Babu (1961)
*ing : Dev, Suchitra Sen
MD : S.D.Burman
Lyrics : Majrooh
Ramki:> This should seems to be definitely the most popular one in
RMIM quizzes. It's the 3rd or 4th time it's featuring here :)
Snehal:> Have you found some echoing effect in that lovely Rafi duet
'Deewana Mastana Hua dil..'?! Wonderful. Any idea how they used to do
it ? (Salil Chowdhary too, did for a Madhumati song.)
Neha:> no idea how they did it....but it sure sounds great! Question
opened to fellow nettors...
(7) Nutan is fighting insomnia. Her husband just died and she has come
back home. Sunil Dutt is a boatman, who used to take her to school and
back. He respects her a lot and when she comes back a widow he goes to
see her. Knowing that she cannot sleep, he sings this song praying that
his sleep would come to her, he wud remain awake, while she sleeps. A
beautiful song again, which actually lories her to sleep. The story is
about the meeting of lovers in previous janam...reincarnation and all.
Song : raam kare aisa ho jaaye....
meri nindiya tohe mil jaaye..
Movie : Milan (1966)
*ing : Sunil Dutt, Nutan
MD : Laxmikant Pyarelal
Lyrics : Anand Bakshi
Chetan:> Lyrics are quite appropriate. The song is boring enough to put
you to sleep.
Sami:> Nutan's insomina had a better cure in Shabaab :-)
(8) A solo for Rajesh Khanna again...This time in a boat with Asha
Parekh (in white). A combo of RDB and Mukesh.
Song : jis galii meiN teraa ghar na ho baalma...
us gali se hamey tou guzarna nahi...
Movie : Kati Patang (1969)
*ing : Rajesh Khanna, Asha Parekh
MD : R.D.Burman
Lyrics : Anand Bakshi
(9) Raj Kapoor finally with Shanky-J. Produced by Shailendra (the
lyricist) this movie drove him bankrupt. Co-starred with Waheeda who
is a Nautanki girl, Raj Kapoor is a bullock cart driver. He tells her
a touching story and sings this song as a part of the story. The song
mainly questions the creator of world as to why he created this world.
Song : duniya bananewale kya tere man mein samayi...
kaahe ko duniya banayi...
Movie : Teesri Kasam
*ing : Raj Kapoor, Waheeda Rehman
MD : Shanker Jaikishen
Lyrics : Shailendra
Snehal:> Very good film, by Shailendra-Basu Bhattacharya
Malini + Balaji:> We think it is a duet with Suman Kalyanpur joining
in the end.
Neha:> dunno....someone confirm??
Chetan:> glub...glub...drowning in a deluge of SJ songs...gasp :)
Neha:> and to think this was the first SJ song of this quiz.....need
i say more!?:)
(10) Now..one from Madan Mohan. Sorry MM Fans for bringing this one so
late...but this song is not one of my favorites....But I know it is
liked by tons of people...so here comes Mukesh for Madan Mohan and on
screen for Pradeep Kumar who is remembering his wife, Anita Guha, who
he thinks is dead...(but she is alive..and with a kid too..and right
near him). Shobha Khote looks on as he sings this sad song...cause
forgotten memories (yes that is how it comes in the song..) are
troubling him.
Song : bhooli huyi yaadon...mujhe itna na sataao...
ab chayn se rehne do...mere paas an aao..
Movie : Sanjog (1962)
*ing : Pradeep Kumar, Anita Guha, Shubha Khote
MD : Madan Mohan
Lyrics : Rajinder Krishan
(11) Raj Kapoor again (hold it guys..what can I do if Mukesh sung
mainly for him??:)). This time trying to remind Sadhana who is listening
to him sing about their love. A tandem song again...sung earlier by
Lata for Sadhana, when he is trying to get rid of her. In the movie
she has lost memory and ends up living with him. They get married.
Later she regains her memory and forgets him. He looks for her and
when he does find her she doesnt recognise him. He sings this at some
function(not sure..but do remember him singing it on a mike). In the
song, he reminds her of those days when she used to write his name on
her hand...etc..etc...
Song : hamne tujhko pyaar kiya hai jitna..
kaun karega itna....
Movie : Dulha dulhan
*ing : Raj Kapoor, Sadhana
MD : Kalyanji Anandji
Lyrics : Indeewar
(12) Another movie in which Rajesh Khanna acted as a person who knows
he is dying, though here the playback is for Feroz Khan. Feroz Khan
loves his brother's tutor Sharmila and they get married. This song
starts in a car....where he tells her that he will even call day as
nite if she so wishes..(who says Mukesh can sing only sad songs..??).
Song : jo tum ko ho pasand wahi baat kahenge..
tum din ko agar raat kaho...raat kahenge..
Movie : Safar
*ing : Feroz Khan, Sharmila
MD : Kalyanji Anandji
Lyrics : Indeewar
UVR:> True. Who says he can sing? ;-)
To Mukesh's credit, though, he can make even this song sound like he's
pitying himself that he's got to call day as nite if she so wishes.
(13) Raj Kapoor this time with Tuberculosis. He is almost dying and
wants to go home. So he asks Mukesh (tangewala), "main paagal hi sahi..
is paagal ko Rewa pahoncha do". Mukesh takes him cause the money
offered is quite a lot and sings this song on the way. Meanwhile, his
heroine is getting married to his doctor friend, Pran. Raj dies in the
tanga and Mukesh is taken away by the police while her doli passes by
the dead body...life is short after all. Before getting into the tanga
there is a dialogue Raj says which I liked. He says "zindagi maine
tujhe apne jeevan ke 32 saal diye hain, aaj main tujhse sirf ek raat
maangta hun".
Song : chhoti si ye zindagani re...
chaar din ki jawaani teri...
Movie : Aah (1953)
*ing : Raj Kapoor, Nargis
MD : Shankar Jaikishen
Lyrics : Shailendra
Snehal:> This is very interesting. I have seen a version in 1989
(after his death), on DD-I, where he doesn't die and Pran doesn't marry
Nargis, as 'khabar' reaches there in 'pandaal' that Raj is alive (if I
remember correctly. My memory is very volatile :( ), and he (Pran) and
Nargis go to see him. They meet midway. They (R & N) marry, and in true
'hindi' movie spirit love of N gives life to R and he is cured! All
this happens in last 2 minutes. And then comes a song by Lata-chorus
with R and N looking upon the troup of females singing in front-yard
of their house, while sitting on 'zula'.
(14) How could I leave out his playback for Rajendra Kumar. Sami,
finally Naushad. Vyjayantimala looks really sick (I dont know if she
is, in the movie) and is crying. Rajendra Kumar sings this song for her
and tells her that he is her mirror (I dont know how) and that she shud
give him all her sorrows. Had to put this song, it being one of my
favorites by Mukesh.
Song : husn-e-jaanaa idhar aa..aaina hun main tera....
main sanwaarunga tujhe...saare gham de de mujhe..
Movie : Saathi(1965)
*ing : Rajendra Kumar, Vyjayantimala
MD : Naushad
Lyrics : Majrooh
Preeti:> Ah, I see your point. You included this just to please
Sami/Rajendra. Otherwise, I would have wondered what on earth was this
most-overrated-MD-on-RMIM doing in a Mukesh Chitrahaar.
Snehal:> Naushad wasted one more opportunity after release of this movie, to
retire gracefully.
Chetan:> Dont know the song. But maybe Vaijayanti is crying because she
has to be with Rajendra Kumar
Neeraj + Prince:> ONLY Vyjayantimala looks sick ?
Sridhar:> C'mon!! And we all thought she was(not IS :) ) really
beautiful. Sick looking Vyju ?!! I can't think of such a movie !!
Neha:> When i said Vyjayantimala looks sick i meant that she looks
"ill" in the sense "not healthy"...i wasnt commenting on her screen
presence in general.
K.K.Ramkrishnan:> Yup, she is supposed to be really sick in the story.
Runs away from her husband (RK) so that he doesn't have to watch her
die. Then recovers and returns, by which time he's become blind etc.
etc. This movie was the remake of the Tamil superhit "Paalum pazhamum"
*ing Sivaji Ganesan
and Sarojadevi in the lead roles.
Satish Kalra:> (MD Naushad used Mukesh in this film after a gap of over
15 years in Mela and Andaz.)
15) Life...truly is a song of love. This song appears as a tandem song
in this movie the other being a Lata solo for Nanda, the late wife of
Manoj in this movie. One of Laxmi-Pyare's better songs. In this movie,
Manoj Kumar has a son who is dumb, and when the son gets back his
speech, Manoj loses his sense of hearing. There is another solo by
Mukesh in this movie for, guess what??, water. Jaya Bhaduri also
co-stars in this movie.
Song : ek pyaar kaa naghma hai..maujon ki rawaani hai..
zindagi aur kuchh bhi nahi...teri meri kahani hai..
Movie : Shor (1972)
*ing : Manoj Kumar, Jaya Bahaduri, Nanda
MD : Laxmikant Pyarelal
Lyrics : Santosh Anand
Ashish(on "life...truly is a song of love":> totally unfamiliar with
this philisophy.....hardly any wonder that I dont know this song!
Sandeep + Ashish:> We thought this was a Lata-Mukesh duet.
Neha:>my apologies. I realise it is a duet.
(16) Raj Kapoor again with Nutan. They start off with him painting her.
He falls in love with her, thinking she is poor, but in fact she is
rich and at her birthday party he realises the truth. He is asked to
sing. Title song of the movie. Featuring in this movie also in a nice
role is Lalita Pawar as his land-lady and Motilal as her uncle.
Song : sab kuchh seekha hamne..na seekhi hoshiyaari..
sach hai duniyawaalon..ki ham hain anaDi...
Movie : Anadi (1958)
*ing : Raj Kapoor, Nutan, Shubha Khote, Motilal and Lalita Pawar
MD : Shankar Jaikishen
Lyrics : Shailendra
(17) Here we have Dharmendra, Sharmila and Deven Verma. Dharmendra is
reminiscing childhood memories on a piano while Deven Verma looks after
some guests...Seems like some party is on. I never understand why such
songs are played when the mood is of partying. Sharmila keeps smiling,
though I think Dharmendra is singing it to get her memory back...she
shows no sign of remembering, but she does look pretty. Excellent music
by Roshan.
Song : aaya hai mujhe phir yaad vo zaalim..
guzara zamana...bachpan ka...
haay re akele woh chhodke jaana...
aur na aana bachpan ka...
Movie : Devar
*ing : Dharmendra, Sharmila, Devan Verma
MD : Roshan
Lyrics : Anand Bakshi
Ambrish:> Deven Verma - the most under-rated comedian of Bollywood:(
Satish Kalra:> (In this song, Dharmendra did not know at that time that
Sharmila Tagore was his childhood you know what, and who he -Dharmendra-
himself had helped to get married to his friend Deven Verma. When he
finds out the truth later he sings the other beautiful song - baharon
ne mera chaman loot kar..)
(18) Coming to think of it, Mukesh did give quite a lot of playback for
Manoj Kumar. Here Manoj Kumar is with Mala Sinha. Also starring in this
movie is Shashikala. They seem to be quite a threesome..eh? This is a
duet with lata...in which they both complain that though there are tons
of stars in the sky, they couldnt get the only one they looking for...
well..too bad...life is not always fair.
Song : laakhon taare aasmaaN mein..ek magar dhunde na mila..
dekh ke duniya ki diwaali...dil mera chupchaap jala..
Movie : Hariyaali aur Raasta (1961)
*ing : Manoj Kumar, Mala Sinha, Shashikala
MD : Shankar Jaikishen
Lyrics : Shailendra
Snehal:> I liked only one thing in the film. The song sung by Mahendra
Kapoor and it's picturisation in a ship.
(19) Couldnt leave out one of the most beautiful ladies to grace our
silver screen.....so here is Waheeda with Pradeep Kumar..This movie is
about brother-sister bond. And Rakshabandhan is coming up...so thot it
wud be nice to have a song from this movie. One very nice duet in which
our Waheeda and Pradeep sing this song in a typical filmy style...in a
garden...around the trees...she asks him to not hold her hand...lest
her slim wrist gets hurt...BTW, her brother is played by Ashok Kumar
and the music is by Ravi...another underestimated MD on RMIM. Lata
gives her golden voice to Waheeda.
Song : saiyaan chhod de baiyaan...meri patli kalaiyaan mud jaayegi..
tera haath na chhodu...tera saath na chhodun..kahan jaayegi..
Movie : Rakhi (1962)
*ing : Waheeda Rehmaan, Pradeep Kumar, Ashok Kumar
MD : Ravi
Lyrics :
Ashok:> You say, "ANOTHER underestimated MD". Who is the first one?
Neha:> Ashok, I didnt say "second"..so that eliminates the question
part of your comment. By "another" I meant...there are may other
underestimated MDs on RMIM...(I cant even start listing them here...)
and he is just another one.
Snehal:> Very sweet song. BTW, for Raksha-Bandhan you could have
chosen Beimaan (72) song 'Ye Rakhi Bandhan Hai Aisa' by Lata-Mukesh
Ambrish:> Ouch! Waheeda with Pradeep Kumar?:-(
(20) Shashi Kapoor and Sadhana this time are both doctors and after
night-duty, Sadhana gives Shashi a ride home. He is in a shower now
when he breaks into this song...A song of the kind that grows on u
with time. (Shashi also sports a moustache here). Later on he becomes
blind while she takes care of him, pretending to be her cousin who is
supposed to get married to him. Lata playbacks for Sadhana.
Song : Do ankhiyan jhuki jhuki si....
phool se komal honthon pe..kavita ruki ruki si...
Movie : Prem Patra (1962)
*ing : Shashi Kapoor, Sadhana
MD : Salil Chowdhary
Female Singer: Lata
Lyrics : Rajinder Krishan
(21) Raj Kapoor and Nargis...She is in a blanket by a fireplace with
only that fire and a lantern providing the light, while Raj Kapoor is
sitting a barrel outside shivering and whistling. They have to spend
the night in a Post and Telegraph office. They are pen-pals in love.
I do think Shanky-J deserve better treatment on RMIM...
Song : jaane na nazar...pehchaane jigar...
yeh kaun jo dil mein samaaya...
mera ang ang muskaaya...
Movie : Aah (1953)
*ing : Raj Kapoor, Nargis, Pran, Vijaylaxmi
MD : Shankar Jaikishen
Female Singer: Lata
Lyrics : Hasrat Jaipuri
Snehal:> Lekin sunataa kaun hai ? Aankh mund lene se din, raat me
thode hi badal jata hai ? Phir to, jo hota hai woh bhi nahi dikhata! :)
Preeti:> Perhaps you can start the ball rolling by initiating a drive
to ban the ugly name "Shanky-J" (This gaali was in existence before I
started reading the newsgroup).
(22) A duet with Lata for Anil Biswas. This song features 3 times in
the movie. The other two times, it features as solos by Lata and Meena
Kapoor. I would hardly call it a duet, since Mukesh only sings the
mukhada and then Lata follows. On screen it is Dilip Kumar and Nalini
Jaywant sitting by the side of a jheel. The third angle of this movie's
triangle is provided by Nargis. Nalini is a flower girl in this movie
and Dilip Kumar is a writer.
Song : Yaad rakhna chand taaron..is suhani raat ko
Movie : Anokha Pyar (1948)
*ing : Nalini Jaywant, Nargis, Dilip Kumar
MD : Anil Biswaas
Female Singer: Lata
Lyrics : Zia Sarhadi
Anup:> Note: Why did'nt you include "Dil jalta ..." to make this quiz
easy. All you had to give in the clue was "Anil Biswas MD, Mukesh
singing like Saigal". :-)
Chetan:> Further proof - if you need any - of Anilda's greatness!
Ashok:> I haven't seen the film, but not sure about the song featuring
3 times.
Neha:> My personal fav. of this quiz. I _have_ seen the movie and it
does feature 3 times in the movie.
(23) A quawaali this time...Raj Kapoor with Padmini...I simply couldn't
leave out this movie...They meet while Padmini is acting as a male
"Minu Master" and they start a "footpath circus" with a dog and
themselves. Soon though he realises that she is a girl. They start
doing shows with this quawaali. Asha is the female playback. Later
on, they go on to act in theatre together where Rajendra Kumar spots
her and offers her to act as heroine with him...which eventually leads
to Raj and Padmini's separation. Music, again by Shankar Jaikishan..
and I still feel their bashing on RMIM is uncalled for. Not one of the
best songs of the movie...but the other songs picturisation would have
made it too easy to guess.
Song : Daag Na Lag jaaye
Movie : Mera Naam Joker
*ing : Raj Kapoor, Padmini
MD : Shankar Jaikishen
Female Singer: Asha
Lyrics : Shailendra
Snehal:> Wish, Raj Kapoor could have avoided coming in front of camera.
Seriously. See the first half. IMHO, the best direction, where a tocuh
of a genius can be seen on every millimeter of the film - in Indian
cinema history.
Sami:> This is turning out to be a pro-Shanky-J propaganda :-)
Ambrish:> Ang lag ja baalmaa-IMHO one of the most seductive songs of
Indian cinema:-) The picturization of the song and Asha Bhonsle's
rendering are just awesome !!
Anup:> Note: Neha, why so many clues in this song in this relatively
easy one and why so less clues in others :-)
(24) Dharmendra, a "Ghaas-Poos ka doctor"(no offense meant to any
Botany scientists) and Sharmila (they are married) are playing a
prank on her Jijjaji, Om Prakash. Dharam pretends to be a Waahan-chaalak
who speaks shudhh hindi. They go to a garden and sing this song in
front of her niece, so that she can go tell her parents about Sharmila
and the driver. An okayish duet by Lata and Mukesh...
Song : baagon mein kaise yeh phool khiltein hain...
Movie : chupke chupke
*ing : Dharam, Amitabh, Sharmila, Jaya Bhaduri
MD : S.D.Burman
Female singer: Lata
Lyrics : Anand Bakshi
Renu + Neeraj:> How can anyone call this song 'okayish' is beyond us.
This is an extremely lovely song with some beautiful santoor pieces,
especially in the beginning. 'chupke chupke' and 'ab ke sajan saawan'
always get spoken about for Lata's sake and everyone brings up 'sa re
ga ma' during the annual KK-Rafi war, but this song always misses out
on the attention it deserves.
Neha:>to each his own...my &okayish 8 was in terms of my liking the song.
It had nothing to do with the technicalities of the song.

Actually...what happens is that Deven Verma plays dirty and get around to
marrying Sharmila while trying to show that he is making a sacrifice. And
Dharmendra thinks that his friend is great...until things get really bad.
The strangest part of the movie was that Sharmila never realises that her
"bachpan ka meet" was Dharmendra till the end....(not even in the end actually)
The other Roshan gems of this movie are:
Duniya mein aisa kahan sabka naseeb hai...
koi koi apne piya ke kareeb hai...
and
Kaajalwaale nayan mila ke kar dala bechain...
kisi matwaali ne...haay re loot liya re....
and of course
Baharon ne mera chaman loot kar...khiza ko ye ilzaam kyun de diya..
(when dharmendra realises about deven verma's villany:(
