Raaz Sahib,

Would you be able to translate into English from (gulaabii) Urdu?

Here is a literal rendering from the film clip and not the clip you
have posted.

hameN nahr vaale pul pih bulaa ke
nah jaane maahii* kahaaN rah gayaa
hamaarii aaNkhoN se niiNdeN uRaa ke
nah jaane maahii kahaaN rah gayaa

( yahaaN par "kahaaN rah gayaa" se muraad "kahaaN mar gayaa"
nahiiN!;-) )

uRtaa (hai) dupaTTaa meraa malmal kaa
dil par zor channaa** nahiiN chaltaa
aa'e to manaauuN gii maiN haath joR ke
maahii ve tuu ne Ghussah kiyaa kis gal*** kaa
hamaare paa'oN meN beRiyaaN pahnaa ke
nah jaane maahii kahaaN rah gayaa

thak ga'ii huuN paaniyoN ko puNR puNR**** ke
baateN is dil kii maiN suNR suNR ke (sun sun ke)
saKht kiyaa hai tuu ne taNg saajanaa
badle luuN gii maiN tum se chuNR chuNR ke (chun chun ke)
hameN pyaar kii siiRhii pih chaRhaa ke
nah jaane maahii kahaaN rah gayaa

rut tere pyaar vaalii rang rang kii
dil tujhe chuumtaa hai aaNkh....? #
mol kyaa rakhaa hai tuu ne hamaare pyaar kaa
maiN har vaqt huuN terii Khair maaNgtii
hameN pyaar kii bhuul meN phaNsaa ke
nah jaane maahii kahaaN rah gayaa
................................................................

* maahii = maHbuub
maahii ve = ai mere maHbuub

** channaa = ai mere chaaNd

*** gal = baat

**** puNR puNR ke = chhaan chhaan ke ( although in Punjabi one uses
chhaan_naa for sifting solids whereas puNRnaa is used for liquids)

? # I could not quite work out the meaning of the word "saNghdii"

I hope this has been of some help, Raaz Sahib.

Naseer Sahab,

Thank you for the translation.

I was looking for the meaning and not very particular
about English or Urdu.

I broke into peels of laughter at your satire
" kahaa.n mar gayaa "

There is one word " khore maahii " is it something like
daGaabaaz, or sa.Ngdil.

Among various videos available on youtube for the song,
I have chosen this video, because of quality, pleasant
music and a very nice presentation.

Raaz Sahib,

I am glad you found the translation to your liking.

"Khore" or "Khavre" is equivalent to "kaun jaane", "nah jaane".

I thought the film clip was the complete version but I might be wrong.
I have to agree with you that I too enjoyed the slower tempo version
which you presented.

I hope someone like our Professor Sahib or Vijay Sahib may be able to
decode the one word I was unable to translate.

Naseer aur Raaz sahebaan:

The word 'saNgdii' means 'sharmaaNdii'

saNgna---> to be coy.

Best,

Vijay

Look at this version of the song under discussion:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YUYqi6shWyM&feature=related

The most corrupt government and bureaucracy in the world:
Only in Pakistan!
This is being performed by a very senior secretary of federal
government in front of president of Pakistan and the top
bureaucrats and their equally corrupt wives.

Irfan
