I havent given the nominations for Supporting acting, villain etc because my
fingers are aching from typing this in. This is just my second time on the net
and if there are any mistakes, attribute it to inexperience.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^********************^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Thanx subbu for giving the list .
Here i am trying to predict some of the winners.
Its jus' a guess on my part from what i have seen and what i feel
will be given on awards night!!
Other netters can add in thier guesses' too.
Best Film : Damini
Best Director: Raaj Kumar Santoshi
Best Actor : Shah Rukh Khan (Baazigar)
Can be a tough choice considering Aamirs role
in HHRPK , I haven't seen Gardish so am not in
position to tell about jackie , but have heard
that his performance is very impressive in Gardish.
But would like to stick to shah rukh from what i have
seen.
Best Actress : Meenakhsi Sheshadri (Damini)
Haven't watched Rudaali (Dimple) and Gumraah (Sridevi)
so my choice comes from the other three.
Best MD : Annu Malik (Baazigar)
Haven't heard the music of Rudaali and Darr , so again
my choice comes from the other three.
Best Lyricsts: Ghunghat ki aad se (HHRPK)
Sameer
I wish gulzaar gets it! but again due to lack of my
knowledge about gulzaars song i vote for Sameer.
Best Male PB : Kumar Sanu (Baazigar) Baazigar O!Baazigar
Best Female PB: Illa Arun/Alka yagnik (Khalnayak) choli ke peeche
'Xcuse me for my ignorance on some of the Movies such as Darr,
Rudaali etc but the point is i haven't seen or heard the movie
and/or music. Now, some of u may say that y wud i want to guess
if i am not even sure about the whole thing, maybe those who
have this pt r right, but i am jus' doing for the fun of it .
And also to see how others might come with thier guesses' and

: Best Film
: 1)AANKHEN (Ak)
: 2)BAAZIGAR (Bz)
: 3)DAMINI (Dm)
: 4)Hum hai rahi Pyar Ke (HHRPK)
*** I would say a toss-up between "Damini" and "Hum Hain Rahi Pyaar Ke".
They are both really good films, well-made and with good story lines and
great acting. The problem is that both have essentially different things
to offer... with "Hum Hain..." basically a comedy and "Damini" a more
serious type of film, provoking serious questions in the conscience of
society. Meenakshi, IMO, does a great job.
As far as the other films are concerned, I for one CANNOT believe
"Aankhein" was nominated! Okay, it was an entertaining film.. but a
award? Sheesh! "Baazigar" is also good, but not great, dwelling as it
does on basically the same revenge theme. "Khalnayak" again, is a
slickly produced film, very entertaining... but... ahm.. no award,
please, at least not for best film... IMO it is NOT a standout.
Definitely after "Damini" and "Hum Hain..."
: 5)KhalNayak (Kn)

: Director
: 1)David Dhawan (Ak)
: 2)Mahesh Bhatt (HHRPK)
: 3)Rajkumar Santoshi (Dm)
*** A much more difficult choice here. Though I'd put my money on
Rajkumar "I love Meenakshi" Santoshi :) or Mahesh Bhatt for "Hum Hain.."
if for nothing than for coaxing an excellent performance by the kids,
especially the youngest one.
: 4)Subhash Ghai (Kn)
: 5)Yash Chopra (Darr)
*** A slickly made film by Yashji; however, I am a trifle annoyed by
ShahRukh's overacting in the film, keeping in mind his psychopathic
character.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
: Actor
: 1)Aamir (HHRPK)
*** Well, I'd say a toss-up between Aamir and Sunjay, with more weight on
Sunjay; the latter's acting was superb. Govinda? PLEASE! :) Jackie is
so-so in "Gardish", I don't see what the big deal is, essentially a
boring film. SRK... not for Baazigar though!
: 2)Govinda (Ak)
: 3)Jackie Shroff (Gardish)
: 4)Sanjay Dutt (Kn)
: 5)Shah Rukh Khan (Bz)
______________________________________________________________________________
: Actress
: 1)Dimple (Rudaali)
*** I don't know how wise it is to challenge the givers of the National
Award, but hey, I don't agree with them in a sense. Granted that Dimple
acted very well in "Rudaali", but essentially it was a really boring role
in a boring movie with too much "rona dhona" for it to be appealing to
general audiences. So sheerly for that reason, I don't think she'll get
FF's award.
: 2)Juhi (HHRPK)
: 3)Madhuri (Kn)
: 4)Meenakshi Sheshadri (Dm)
*** Definitely, Meenu mausi should get it. Great acting, and excellent
portrayal of the role in an excellent film. IMO, there is nothing
outstanding about the roles of Juhi and Madhuri in their respective films.
: 5)Sridevi (Gumraah)
*** HUH? Huh??!!? PLEASE!!
______________________________________________________________________________
: Music Director
: 1)Anu Malik (Bz)
: 2)Bhupen Hazarika (Rudaali)
: 3)Laxmi-P'lal (Kn)
: 4)Nadeem Shravan (HHRPK)
: 5)Shiv-Hari (Darr)
*** This I think is VERY difficult because almost all the films have some
songs that I like. "Rudaali" songs weren't even memorable enough to stick
in mind. I don't know what the big deal about this film is. I think it
really sucks! (excuse my language). Anyhow, I'd say LP for "Khalnayak" a
great job.
_______________________________________________________________________________
: Lyricist
: 1)Anand Bakshi (Choli Ke peeche,Kn)
*** Since none of these lyrics were outstanding, I'd say Anand Bakshi. A
riveting song.. although lyrics for all these films are pedestrian.
3)Dev Kohli (Yeh kaali kaali Aankhen,Bz)
*** Kajol DOESNOT have "Gorey gorey gaal" btw :)
______________________________________________________________________________
: Male Singer
: 1)Kumar Sanu (Baazigar O Baazigar, Bz)
: 2) ,, (Yeh kaali kaali aankhen,Bz)
: 3)Udit Narayan (Jaadu Teri nazar,Darr)
: 4) ,, (Phoolon Sa Chehra Tera,Anari)
: 5)Vinod Rathod (Nayak nahin Khalnayak hoon main,Kn)
*** What has happened to these people? Are these all the top sung songs?
Ridiculous. Anyhow, to choose from above, I'd say Udit Narayan for "Jaadu
teri nazar..."
: Female Singer
: 1)Alka Yagnik/Ila Arun (Choli Ke peeche, Kn)
*** DEFINITELY, well sung.
: 2)Alka Yagnik (Baazigar O Baazigar,Bz)
** Horrible
: 3 ,, (bambai Se gai Poona , HHRPK)
*** What has the world come to?

It might interest people to know that these nominations are decided
from responses to Filmfare's ad each year that calls for nominations
to the different categories to be sent in by "moviegoers".The list of
films for that year are provided with the ad. (This year the deadline
was Jan 20, '94). The responses are then tallied and the nominations
with the highest number of votes are then chosen as the subset from
which the final winners will be decided by their specially appointed
panel of judges.
So, in essence, the final winners (for best film, best actor, best
actress etc) are actually chosen by the "moviegoers" themselves! This
subjectivity also leads to strange nominations. For instance, a best
actress nomination could have been made because the "moviegoer"
thought the actress looked cute in the movie!!!!! Actually, this
category doesn't even make sense anymore. A better thing to do is to
divide it into two categories: "best acting" and "most beautiful".
This would allow people to differentiate between beauty and artistic
talent. As it is, there are few movies made nowadays that allow
actresses to display acting talent! And most moviegoers anyway seem to
mistake beauty for acting or to think that looking beautiful in a
movie is sufficient reason to qualify the actress(what a misnomer)!
(In fact, "rmim" has seen these sort of views in the past and recently
too.(reference: Manisha Koirala in Milan, Juhi Chawla in Darr,
comments))
