There was this MD named P Ramakant in the late 1940s.
I was told his surname was Palvankar (paal_vaN_kar),
but PaingaNkar also seems a possibility. Does anybody
have any info on this point?

Shaadii Se Pehle (1947) is credited to Paigankar + Karnad
in HFGK. Nerurkar's Lata Kosh credits a song in it to
P Ramakant + Karnad.

Meri Bhabhi, 1948, had one Paijankar as its MD. I think it
should be Paigankar, or, more likely, Paingankar. (pai.ngaNa_kar)
One song in the film was sung by Purushottam. Might it be
Purushottam Solankurkar? (soLaa.nkur_kar, or, more likely,
soLa.nkur_kar )

Bhedi Bangala, 1949 : MD is listed as P Ramakant. But Bhagwan
Dada told Hamraaz later that its real MD was C Ramchandra.

Bhole Bhaale : 1949. MD : P Ramakant.
Baboojii (1950) : P Ramakant was the MD. Anna Sahab sang songs
in the film.
Bakshish (1950) : P Ramakant was the MD. One of many Jagruti
Pictures' films with him as MD.
Rupayaa (1950) : MD was P Ramakant.

Some knowledgeable people in Mumbai say that P Ramakant
was CR's assistant. They also claim that CR only used his name
as the officially credited MD (perhaps to get around contractual
constraints?) for some films and scored music himself. But 'some'
may or may not mean 'all' films credited to P Ramakant.

Films MDed by Purushottam (Solankurkar) :
(The list covers only 1948-1950 years)
Apna Desh (1949)
Dahej (1950), co-md with Vasant Desai
He was active in Marathi field as well.

And was Hari Bhai, MD of Aap Biti (1948) and Begunah (1949),
none other than a mere pen-name of Anil Biswas?

C Balaji, MD of Paisa (1941) = Balaji Chaugule, who also composed
music for Bhalji Pendharkar's Marathi films made in Kolhapur around 1940. He
had composed the tune for 'bahu asot sundar', the famous
Maharashtra Geet written by Shripad Krishna Kolhatkar. His tune
was sung by Vasudev-rao ('Snehal') Bhatkar and Lalita Deulkar.
It can be heard in Bhalji Pendharkar's old films, the ones dated
upto 1950/55. Later Lata set it to a new tune as Anand-ghan,
and her tune is the most famous for that song today. It can be heard
in Bhalji's later films, like Mohityanchi Manjula.

Some information in this post is thanks to Ashok Thakurdesai
of Mumbai, a member of SIRC (Soc of Ind Rec Collectors).
Some of it has come from Bapu Watwe, PRABHAT's historian.
He had witnessed that era at close quarters and is generous with
his time.

I am the grandson of Ramakant Paigankar. His film name was P Ramakant not Ramakanth.

On my recent visit to India, I met Raju Bharatan at his place.
I had doubt about Chic Chocolate being MD of Naadan 1951, because songs had CR style (specially duet "Aisa Kya Kasoor Kiya".) He confirmed that CR was indeed the MD. Some accountant had told CR that to avoid taxes he should not use his name. I should have asked RB about other instances of CR not using his name as officially.
