LADKIYON KO CHAHIYE WOH COLLEGE MEIN SEEKHLEIN

Unreleased song of Kishoreda composed by Madanji released on the 23rd
Death Anniversary of the legendary singer
08 October 2010

The legendary Kishore Kumar passed away 23 years ago on 13th October
1987, leaving behind a treasure trove of songs and performances that
will always be remembered. Madanji passed away 35 years ago and his
immortal tunes are still remembered today. Together, Kishoreda and
Madanji made some memorable songs. Infact Madanji scored the music for
many a Kishore Kumar starrer including MEMSAHIB, BHAI BHAI, CHACHA
ZINDABAD, MANMAUJI, LADKA LADKI and others.

Some of their songs together included, Dil Dilse Milakar Dekho, Aye
Haseenon Nazneenon, Des Chhudaye, Mera Naam Abdul Rahman, Badi Cheez
Hai Pyar Mohabbat, Bach Gaye, Zaroorat Hai, and, in later years, Simti
Si Sharmayi Si, Rahi Tha Main Awaara, Har Koi Chahta Hai Ek Mutthi
Aasmaan and various others.

One of their unreleased songs, Aaj Mujhe Jal Jane Bhi Do, was featured
on the album TERE BAGAIR and was widely appreciated by their fans.

On the occasion of Kishoreda's 23rd death anniversary we now release
on the Madanji website, another song recorded by them which has never
been heard before.

This song, LADKIYON KO CHAHIYE WOH COLLEGE MEIN SEEKHLEIN was recorded
in the early 70's for the same film as 'Aaj Mujhe Jal Jaane Bhi Do',
tentatively titled REHNUMA. Written by Naqsh Lyallpuri, it is a
naughty, teasing song... similar to the mood of Zaroorat Hai, and more
in the mould of an earlier song of the duo, Suniye Suniye Aaj Ka Ki
Ladkiyon Ka Programme.

It is a situational song and indeed different from the Madanji style
of songs. The highlight of the song is the parody element and the
comic performing bits by Kishoreda, at which he was unique!

Indeed this 'first time heard' number will be enjoyed by the fans of
Kishoreda as it, once again, brings to the fore his multifaceted
genius.

We pay our tribute to dear Kishoreda with the release of this song,
never heard before.

For those who want to know more, a few reels of this film Rehnuma were
canned in 1973-74. The film starred Vinod Mehra, Rehana Sultan, and
Vijay Arora. I still remember a color photo of Vinod Mehra and Rehana
Sultan from this film in a 1973 or 1974 issue of the Urdu film monthly
Shama. On facing pages there were a total of 4 photos (from different
films in shooting), 2 on one page and 2 on the next page. One was of
Hema Malini eating an apple in the snow (Dost, 1974), one was of
Sunil Dutt showing bundles of notes to a scantily clad Saira Banu
(Nehle Peh Dehla, 1976), one was of Sunil Dutt and Rekha in his
subterranean den of dacoits (Pran Jaaye Par Vachan Na Jaaye, 1974),
and one was from Rehnuma (never released).

How I wish I could get back all those issues of Shama and all those
good, old days. Can any Delhiwaala please help me?

I just recalled that it was an early 1974 issue, because it also
published a list of Shama/Sushma Award winners for the year 1973 and
photos of the award ceremony. The then prime minister of Mauritius,
Dr. Shiv Sagar Ram Ghulam, was the chief guest at the ceremony. I
clearly remember color photos of him with Sanjay and wife Zarine
(probably discussing plans to shoot his film Chandi Sona in
Mauritius), Rajesh Khanna, Dimple, Raakhee, Zahida, Amitabh Bachchan,
Danny and Parveen Babi together (yeah - and I remember their dresses
too), and Asrani.

Oh, recalling all those photos from those old magazines can be so much
joy - and pain :-(

Thanks a tonne Professor Sahab. My letter in Urdu to Yunus Sahab goes
out this weekend. I will rather wait to make a phone call - a letter
will make a better first impression. Any idea how old he might be?

I would say at least 80. Here is some info on Khilona, his publication
for kids

http://www.thaindian.com/newsportal/uncategorized/old-timers-miss-enchanting-urdu-monthly-for-kids_10060644.html

Believe it or not, I learnt Urdu so that I could read Khilona as soon
as it came in the mail and not wait for my uncle to come home very
late (he was in an amateur drama company).

I grew up on Khilona too. They were mostly from the '50s and '60s
that I got to read in the '70s when I had learned to read. By the
way, I read this online article before - nice and interesting. I know
I am not the only one who wants to connect with his childhood days
through magazines and books devoured in those days. One poem from it
that I will remember forever was about a kid brother and his older
sister - the brother used to harass the sister a lot until she got
married and left home and then he missed her so much. It left a deep
emotional impact on me then.
