Thanks in advance

I had posted the countdowns from 1958 till 1965. The no.1 songs from 1953 to
1993 have also been posted. A simple search on google will give you all
these
posts.
One possible source for the other years wud be the Geetmala countdown tapes.

SG,
Thanks for your posting.
I have seen your posting on the countdown from 1958 till 1965. I have
also seen the list for no.1 songs from 1953 till 1993, but it only
states the top song of the year and doesn't include the top 15 songs
in each year.
I have searched Google and other search engines and e-mailed many
people but have had no joy. The Geet Mala tapes is a good idea except
I cannot find them anywhere. I have tried all the Indian music shops
and online stores.
I hope someone out there has the answers.

There is a 6-volume12-CD set of Binaca Geet Mala which you can proabbly get
from HMV or any other CD dealers.
Vol. 1 is titled Hit Parade - The Early Years (1949-1954).
Happy listenings.

So here I am.
The 12-CD set was released in six volumes. The titles and No. of songs are as
follows.
Volume 6 also has clips of interviews with C. Ramchandra, Bharat Vyas, S. N.
Tripathi, and Jaikishan.
The CDs are actually copied from cassettes (on a couple of CDs, you can hear
A.Sayani actually say that "..ab aap cassette kii duusrii side par aa gaye
hain...", and some of the CDs have only one 'track' for the entire duration of
the CD). In one of the two cassettes that I had prior to buying the CD set, I
remember Ameen Sayani mentioning that they planned to release a total of 50
cassettess of the Geetmala Hit Parade. I have tried my best to get them, but
in vain. Maybe in India, they can be specail ordered from HMV/RPG/Saregama. I
doubt that material from 50 cassettes can be accommodated on jsut 12 CDs. I
would also appreciate information on the availability of this 50-tapes set.
Please also note that Volume I is ttitled Hit Parade, while the rest are
Geetmala Hit Parade. The reason is that only in the second half of 1954,
Binaca Geetmala adopted the hit songs countdown format.
Mr. Ravi Krishna had also written up a rather comprehensive post on the Binaca
Geetmala hit songs about three or four years back, listing the top songs of
each year right into the 90's. Maybe a search on Google might help, too, for
that post.
.
Happy listenings.

Thanks for your posting. This is helpful info. I have made enquires
about obtaining the 50 Cassesttes but no seems to have them.
Surely there must be someone out there who can help. I have even
e-mailed Ameen Sayani but have not received a reply!
