Great news! Asha Bhosle was awarded the Padmavibhushan along with
Vishwanathan Anand and Sachin Tendulkar.

Well-deserved recognition, but late it surely has been! Here's also
wishing that she gets the Bharat Ratna as well!

Other artistes that were honoured this year (with the Padmabhushan) -
playback singer P. Susheela, rudraveena exponent Ustad Asad Ali Khan
and dhrupad exponent Ustad Rahim Fahimuddin Dagar.

Why a Bharat Ratna? Why before the likes of Rafi, Kishore, Saigal,
Noorjehan, Geeta Dutt and scores of other deserving indian classical
singers? What has she done better than many other singers to deserve a
Bharat Ratna? She was a great singer, no doubt, but so were many
others. She ain't no Lata!

If you go by the discussion we had a few months back on RMIM (a person
making a significant impact not only in India but world over), Asha
deserves Bharat Ratna, much before any Hindi Film Playback/Singer,
including Lata (and Kishore :) )
.

Let's give it to Shilpa Shetty then! After all she has made "a
significant impact world over" as well.
