I picked up a tape of the film Vansh yesterday and don't know
how old this film or its songs are. There are 2 songs in this
film that - to put it mildly - send shivers up and down my
spine. The last time this happened was aeons ago when I first
heard Chingari koi bhadke.

I could've SWORN that the music for these two songs had to be by
Ilayaraja. Egg on my face - I looked at the album cover and there
it was - Music by Anand-Milind. They've made a handful of passably
decent compositions, but my general impression is that they're
mediocre at best. So how can this be?? How? :))

The two songs I refer to are:

1) Aake teri baahon mein, har shaam lage sindhuri - SP + Lata
2) Mai to deewani hui, sapnon ki raani hui - Lata + SWadkar

The first song in particular is chilling - a very close adaption of
raag Puryadhanishri(?). Clearly SP is very comfortable with it,
considering he's done countless renditions in Telugu/Tamil. Lata
(relatively) goes through the motions of the song. She does a
very nice job of the second song, which is also strongly based on
a raag (I don't know which one).

Anyway, I suspect that Anand-Milind have been upto their usual
working mode of wholly duplicating songs from the South. Can
anyone confirm this? Also, you ought to consider watching the
film Vansh. A dark, brooding film with some obvious loopholes
but some of the individual performances and the photography are
quite gripping. The picturisation of the above two songs as
fantasy sequences are brilliant.

'nuff said. Enjoy.

----the songs in this film have been fudged from the Tamil film Agni Nakshatiramwhich also came out in Telugu as Gharshana, which had music by Illayaraja.
If you would notice,Anand Milind have a copy of an Illayaraja song in every
one of their movies except QSQT.The latest one Tu Tu Tu Tara..(I forget the nameof the film)is a direct lift from Rakamma -the song from the Mani Rathnam film
Thalapathi.
Although I dont approve of this,I must say that AM do a very good job of
Hindising the Tamil songs-so that the tunes go along with the words-something
that Illayaraja failed to do so badly during his forays into Hindi films.

yes, vansh is a copy of AGNI NAKSHATRAM in Tamil.
The songs are a well, almost direct lift.

See the Tamil original and then decide on which is better.
The original is a rivettingly beautiful film with better performances,
cinematography, et al.

Cheers,

The second song is based on "Amritavarshini" - a carnatic rAga, i
doubt the existance of a HindustAni equivalent rAg for this.

The way this song structured, it bears the stamp of a composer (IlayarAja ?)
who thinks carnatic music . My guess is that Anand Milind have only aped it.

Yes while Anand Milind did copied or i have say lifted songs from Ilyyaraja for a change Aake teri baahon main is not a straight lift from Tamil/Telugu version. I have heard the songs of Tamil and Telugu movie, they dont feature a song similar to aake teri bahon main. so i think we should give credit to Anand Milind for composing this one. Yes its inspired from Illyaraja tune but is a much more improvised version and not astraight life like other songs.
