The ghatam is an earthen pot, made specially, for musical
purpose.
The presence of ghaTam is very rare in Hindi movie songs,
and one such song where it is used dominantly is in
Bardari (1955) song by Talat- tasveer banaataa hu.n magar
tasaveer nahii.n banatii.

This another song from Shart (1954) by Lata
kahaa.N se le ke aa_ii hai.n ... merii taqadiir ke maalik,
also contain dominance of ghaTam instrument.

Are there more similar songs like that ?

Dasgupta is one word, if you may please. Please use pdg if typing out
the whole name is a bit strenuous.
Interesting topic, Raaz saahib.
The ghatam sound is being encountered with greater frequently in
recent film songs. E.g., yuu.Nhii chalaa chal raahi (Swades, AR
Rahman), bol na halke halke (Jhoom Barabar Jhoom, Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy),
etc. But let's not think that the instrument is only used by MDs who
have a "south Indian background." IIRC people as "northie" as Uttam
Singh (I think -not sure-, in Gadar) and Vishal Bhardwaj (Border,
Omkara) have used it (I could be misremembering the exact
soundtracks, but I'm sure I've heard the ghatam used by these two).
LP used it in "man kyoon behka ri behka" (Ustav) and I think Jatin-
Lalit might've used it in a song or two (at least) also.
Oh, I'm not saying it's not rare. But it may not be as rare as one
might think it is :-)

So Ghatam it is. I had wondered in many songs if it was just a single
high-pitched tabla playing. Apparently (IIRC Supriya Devi/Chowdhury
mentioned in an article, readers might recall her as heroine of Door
Gagan Ki CM) Ravi used to play this instrument in the mid 50s.
The following song from a 1955 Hemant composition uses Ghatam quite
heavily (it's not so evident in the slight low-res youtube version,
but its clear in gramophone)

This song is from the Bengali movie Shapmochan.

Your inquistiveness might have made you look for more details
about ghaTam already, however, you can see some more from
the following links.
Are you sure it's really the ghatam you're hearing in the gramophone
version and not something like the khol? I don't hear any ghatam in
the YT version.

This is a great duet from Geeta Dutt and Mukesh. One to treasure and
is among my favourites in my collection.
Thanks for the memory.

In a way they are rare because, in a single movie 5 songs have
ghaTam music, which no other Hindi movie may have.
Is the ghaTam a popular musical instrument in the valley/hillside,
of the movie's background ?

Speaking of Pancham, I can't recall a single song where he used the
ghaTam. By which I mean exactly what I say -- *I can't recall* -- and
not that I am of the confirmed opinion that he never utilized that
instrument.
But ... has he?
