meaning of these lines?

Hi All,

Can someone explain the meaning of the following lines
from Jagjit's ghazal:

Sawale-wasl pe unhe udo ka khauf hai itna
Dabe hothoN se deteN haiN jawaab, ahista-ahista

Specifically, I am looking for the meaning of the word - "udo"

Hi Neeraj,
I wondered many a times about this myself. A logical
conclusion that I arrived at was that 'Adoo' must mean 'bud-naami' or
something like that. But it still didn't quite ring true, so I asked
my Dad, and found out that 'Adoo' means 'enemy', comes from the word
'Adaavat', which is, translated loosely, 'animosity'. Anyway, the reason
she answers in 'dabe HonTo.n' is because she is scared of the enemy,
(probably meant 'enemy of their love' in this case, or people, in general??)
finding out. Beautiful Sher, hell of a ghazal, as a matter of fact. I
like the other one:

Shab-e-furqat ka jaaga hoo.n, Farishto ub toe sonay doe...
Kabhee, fursat mie.n kur layna hisaab, ahista, ahistaa...

Meaning

Milne ke sawal pe unko Zamane ka itna jyada dar hai ki wo dheere dheere se keh rahe hain ahista ahista


Odoo word ka meaning hai zamane ke log
Bcz agar unko pata chal gaya meeting ka to bahaut hi jyada badnami ho jayegi.

In Urdu poetry, the word " 'adoo" is normally used for
the "rival" or "raqeeb" who (supposedly) has found
favour with the 'mehboob'. It is not a generalized
reference to (a great many) "zamaane ke log", but
usually to a single individual who has sort of triumphed
over the " 'aashiq" / poet in winning the love of the
beloved.

And the word is " "adoo", and not "udoo".
