meaning of the word chakori????

Hi,

I was wondering if anybody knew the exact meaning of the word

"chakori"....as in chanda ki chakori?????

Chakor/Chakori is a hypothetical bird which is supposed to live by 'drinking'
moonlight. So it is always awaiting the moon.
(it is very common in many poems/songs)

The other thing is that the 'chakori's drink only the rain water, that too
only when it (rain) falls. They really wait for that. My further understanding
is that they exist above the earth. May be in that 'Ether' medium...

does this mean that the concept itself of 'chakors' is a fairy
tale and no bird by such a name actually exists..?! cud be...
never thot on those lines... :-)

I do not know whether they existed really at any time. We use it in telugu
when some one is desperately waiting for something

'Swaati Chinukula Kosam Eduru choose chakora pakshullaaa...'

(Like the chakora birds which wait for rain drops...)

It is like Swan, (Hamsa in telugu, I think 'Vaahana' of goddess Saraswati)
They have the capability of separating milk from water. Some people say that
they exist only in Tibet (now also) and some people say that they
no more exist.

hi, my name is chakori..yes chakori is a bird which according to hindu mythology drinks water from rain in swati nakshatra..she is in deep love with moon but since she cannot reach that height, so she takes on fast not to drink water until in swati nakshatra rain occurs..basically my name reveals the kind of attitude the word 'chakori' bears..it is sacrificihats ng without complaining.thats my idea of chakori.if nyone gets something more about it, kindly post here.

In Malayalam, Kuchela going to see his friend Sri Krishna: the poet sing- Chale valathottozhinju chakora Adi Pakshikalude Kolahalam kettu kondu vinir gamichu. Here Chakora etc birds chirps heard and started the journey to see Lord Krisha. Kuchela is going to see Krishna. What bird is Chakora- I wonder.
