One caveat: I don't remember the mukhda of every song - so please
excuse.
Bhupen Hazarika's 'Darmiyaan' is a good effort, but not quite in the
league of his 'Rudaali'. The highlight of this album is the 'gorgeous'
mujra 'dekh loon jo nazar bhar ke...', sung superbly by the great
Asha B. The Asha/Udit duet 'pighalta hua yeh sama' is one of the better
ones in the recent times. Asha's voice here has a timbre and quality
that has to be heard. I thought Asha was past her prime too, but listen
to her here and you will know why she is the best out there. The folksy
'seena gori' is a giddy song with lyrics that make no sense to me. It's
a fun song, sung with the usual aplomb by Asha B. The other songs
are quite average. Bhupenda's solo seems to be a left over from
'Rudaali'. The holi song is good but using Sudesh Bhonsale here spoils
it for me. However, the tune and Asha's singing raise that song. The
last two songs on the album (both by Asha) are not worth talking about.
This is an album chock full of Asha songs and her fans should go out
and get it - NOW.
Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan's 'Aur Pyar Ho Gaya' is, IMO, the best album of
the year so far. Every song here is very melodious and hummable. I am
quite impressed with the music/instrumentation of Nusrat saab. The
best song on the album is 'kaisa yeh pyar hai, allah allah' sung by
Nusrat, Udit and the 'awful' Ms. Paudwal (WHY?). She almost brings
this great song down, but Nusrat redeems it. The other Nusrat song
'zindagi jhoom kar...aur pyar ho gaya' is the title song and is
excellent too. Udit's song (the very first song of the album - I
forget the mukhda now)and Sonu Nigam's 'ek din kahin hum do mile'
will be the two most popular songs. Both are wonderful and well
sung. They each have one more solo and those are alright too.
The worst song on the album is 'uttar dakshin', a duet by Udit and
Alka Y. Asha B. has two songs. The duet with Udit, 'beegi hui fizayen
hai', is quite decent but not quite as good as the one in 'Darmiyaan'.
Asha's solo 'thoda sa pagla, thoda siyaana' has a wonderful rhythymic
beginning and then settles down to be an average song - though I kind
of like it:-) All in all a very satisfying effort by Nusrat saab - way
to go!
The lyrics of both the albums above are by the ubiquitous Javed Akhtar.
He is turning out to be quite a song churning machine.
I also heard 'Daud'. I like ARR, but so far this album sounds mostly
like cacaphony to me. But it might grow on me like 'Rangeela' did.
'O bhanvre' is the only decent melody here, but it is sad to hear
Yesudas singing badly. Asha is very good and I love the way she does
'gun gun gun..' to start and end the song. Her other songs 'zahereela
pyar' and 'sai (something)' I think are awful - despite all the praises
I have heard from Nazir.
Cheers,
Anil
Thanks Anil for the review. If my conclusion is correct then you have
forgotten to point an important reason for the albums sounding so decent.
Hamaare priye Sanu uncle has not "nasalised" any song. Bas aise hi daya

Hi Anil,
AH>Have been listening to two cassettes for the last 3/4 weeks and finally

I disagree very strongly:) I think that this soundtrack is not even
worth it if it was given for free. There is nothing, NADA, to
appreciate. OK, I take that back. Udit really sang well and his friend
(Kumar Sanu) wasn't present. Other than that there are only two songs
that even sounded different (Ek Din Kahin and NFAK's) from what most of
us try to stay away from (read N-S and A-M crap). Basically, there are
NINE BORING songs in this film. Almost all are the usual tabla, same'ol
orchestra junk, with a bit of synthesiser thrown in. Look at Jagi Huyi
Fizaeen (Asha, Udit) and Sitara Aankhen and Koi Jane Koi Na Jane (with a
very annoying "Alah Alah"). Yuck! These are the good songs??
AH>of like it:-) All in all a very satisfying effort by Nusrat saab - way
AH>to go!
I liked his earlier Bandit Queen better. It had a certian mood, a
certian NFAK feel to it. It made you appreciate his talents. Aur Pyar
Ho Gaya has is the same thing we are hearing from N-S and A-M. The same
instruments are being used the same way, and we are hearing the same
song over and over again.
AH>He is turning out to be quite a song churning machine.
That might be a problem:) IMHO, he seemed very run of the mill in his
work in APHG. Hopefully he will be back to his normal self. Border was
excellent (his lyrics, at least).
Oh that Udit song you liked was "Meri Sanson Mein". It is one of the
better ones, but it lasts forever...

Sure sure. RDB was a complete idiot ( besides a plagarist) to offer KS
a chance in 1942 ALS and look what KS did in that film. He murdered all the
songs in that film by his "nasalised" singing. Worse , the idiot RDB was
all praise for KS singing in that film ( this according to Javed Akhtar).
I sometimes wonder why internet access is not in Mumbai. All the MD's should
go thru RMIM. Who knows the standard of present day songs will improve
considerably.
With just one wrong selection doesn't make an idiot of a man!
RDB is the first and foremost of Hindi film MDs to revolutionize
the song culture (Remember Dum maro dum...)
Sanjeev (the most cloned name in RMIM!)

Why only that film?! BTW, I think he did an excellent job singing wise, in
1942 ALS. So does that mean that his other films are even near his
work in 1942? No! Why can't he sound like that all the time? He gets
offered good songs and he messes them up. The only difference in 1942
is that he was offered good songs and didn't mess them up. If he sang
like that even half of the time, people would like him. But he does
not and most people on RMIM (as an example) hate him. Even MDs of late
aren't offering him that many songs lately. He was completly ignored at
the Filmfare awards, too. He is on a decline.

Not only RDB, but other people as well liked his singing. They were not
lying. When you ask people what was his best singing job...most would
say 1942. People know he sang well in that movie. The problem is that
one movie cannot live your life, and he has not sang a song that is even
close to one in 1942, IMHO.

I am sorry to say you missed my sarcasm. My post was not to insult RDB
as you think.

Border is OK in lyrics sense. However, I found the repetitive 'to chaloon'
in one song extremely annoying. I am amazed how Anu Malik decided
to foce-fit the tune to the lyrics by repeating 4-5 times an incomplete
phrase such as, 'to chaloon'.

They're making a fine living over there in Mumbai (most of the MD's that
RMIMers complain about). What makes you think they would care to listen to
anyone in this newsgroup? (This statement, mind you, states nothing about
the standard of today's film songs)
Sanjeev
Its all true I say ! Sarcasm absolutely fails on the internet. Bleah !
Regards and humblest apologies for a meaningless post :-)

If not the best, then it certainly is close.

This song is by Sonu Nigam and Alka Yagnik. Udit Narayan did not sing
it. And it is not that bad!

Actually, the cassette credits support you, Anil. But, I don't. :)
It is sung by SonuN and not Udit.
So, take your pick, folks. Both me and the cassette credits have been
known to go wrong. :) :) Entirely up to you, who you wish to believe. :)
Later,
Ikram.
This is getting interesting. Let's put this question to the rest of the
people on this newsgroup.
