Anyone here ever been to a Asha Bhosle concert? There is one coming up in
my area w/ Amit Kumar and Sonu Nigam. I like Asha and Amit is ok but I
don't know much about Sonu. I am still wondering if I should go.

I hate Saif Ali Khan, so should you.

I went to her concert (Asha's) about 1.5 years ago. I thought it was the best!
It was my first time and she really was as wonderful as I had imagined. This
concert was in SF Bay area and it started promptly on time and was run very
professionally!

Sonu Nigam is the one who sang the song 'sogaya yeh jahan so gaya aasman' I
think in Tezaab. Off the late he has started a programme called 'TVS Sa Re Ga
ma' on Z TV which was kind of a threat to the famous antyaakshari program on
the
same channel. This program was really good and every time 4 singers (2 ladies +
2 males) are invited through some lot+casset singing. They will be singing
1 semi/classical, one of their choice, 1 by the judge (usually good musical
experts), 1 general song. They are tested for all aspects needed to sing say
filmi types. Most of the singers used to flunk the test of 'matching' the beat
and 'pitch' randomly played by Orchestra. Our man (Sonu) used to correct them
and demo them. But I found his singing good. He got good voice. Off the people
started calling him next Rafi etc. As long as he does not copy anyone I think
he
will be good. What I did not like about him was his long chudi daars in the
show. I heard him singing 'chudiyaa re chudiyaa' in the advertisement for this
Asha show. I just did not like he trying to put some 'nose' in voice like Rafi.

But I can definitely tell that he wont be spoiling the show with Asha. I am
betting $30 on this.

The concert should be really good. When Lata came last year, I loved the
concert, but there was one regret. The wasn't much scope for old movie
duets. In Asha's concert, Amit Kumar will probably sing a lot of his
father's duets with Asha. On the topic of Sonu, he is one of the best of
the new breed. He has an excellent voice and a good range. Unfortunately,
he has already been labeled as a "Rafi" clone. This is unfortunate,
though, for his movie career only. From my experience, when we performed
together in Atlantic City last November, his selection focused around old
Rafi hits. He will definately shine brightly in the show.

Correction: That song was sung by Nitin Mukesh.

That song has the voice of 3 singers : Nitin Mukesh, Amit Kumar and
Alka Yagnik. Following detail will help :

Nitin Mukesh sings most of the song, rendering voice for Chunky Pandey.

Alka Yagnik sings following lines and few more ( for Madhuri ):

Kuchh apni kaho kuchh meri suno
ho paas jo mere to chup na raho

Amit Kumar sings following lines and few more ( for Anil Kapoor ):

Hum paas bhi haiN aur dur bhi haiN
azad bhi haiN majboor bhi haiN

Sonu's most famous song to date would be "Achha Sila Diya Tune Mere Pyar
Ka" from Bewafa Sanam.

Damn good singer, though.

Umm, I'm fairly certain it was either Mohammad Aziz, or Shabir Kumar, the
lines go:
Hum paas bhe hai.n aur duur bhi hai.n
azaad bhi hai.n, majboor bhi hai.n
(a coupla lines by Alka)
Hur gharHee mera dil, ghHum kay ghayray mei.n hay
Zindagee, duur tuk ub, andhayray, mei.n hayy...

anyway, I'm positive it wasn't Amit Kumar, anyone know for sure?

That would be utter blasphemy - for wasn't it Mohd. 'I can be worse' Aziz
singing that last part for Anil Kapoor. MK-Rafi slip-ups are well but
this...!!! :-))

Peace be with you.

Could be "Ishq maiN hum tumheN kya batayeN" from "Aja meri jaan".

He has sung few songs in Bobby Deol's "Barsaat", one I remember is

"Karte haiN hum bhi tumse pyar".

Are you sure that it is Amit Kumar? It sounded more like Mohd Aziz to me.

I agree that it wasn't amit kumar who sang for anil kapoor in that song.
I think it was Mohomad Aziz. Shabbir kumar has a very sharp voice which I
don't think was the case with the singer in question.
