Has anybody come up with some other times yet? It would be
interesting to find out which song has the longest prelude.
Also, any ideas on which is the longest Hindi song?
Achal.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>The longest song, as far as I know, is one titled 'DISCO STATION'
picturised on Reena Roy in a film co-*ing Shatrughan Sinha, and is reported to
be 18 minutes long from start to finish, including preludes, afterludes (and all
kinds of lude lyrics - ;-) - fun, oops, pun intended). The film from which it
originates is an absolute mystery to me, the only clue being that it saw the
light of the day anytime between 1982 - 1984.
Hope that helps

My guess is "HATHKADDI". It used to be regularly featured on
CHitrahaar. Kinda hard to believe it could be 18 minutes. This song can
go down in history for a display of the most garish/outlandish wardrobe
ever worn by a heroine. (Reena used to be infamous for this).
A SUGGESTION: In the quest for the longest song, can we leave
the prelude out. (only the bare essentials) This way we can be fair to the
lyricist. Also we already have a list of preludes ranging from 2-3 minutes.
These songs should now be considered without the preludes. Lets post
some songs from memory and those who have these songs can time it. I
kinda liked this thread.
Enjoy.
Sudeep
I always thought that "Yeh ishk ishk hai" was the longest song but I could
have been easily mistaken.

I am sure that the LONGEST PRELUDE is for the Dream Song of AWAARA.
The prelude goes on for a very long time and then come the first words "Yeh nahin Yeh nahin Zindagi Yeh nahin". BTW this song is more famous as "Ghara Aya Mera Paradesi".
Could somebody time it because I do not have a recording here.

How about 'Chatur naar kar ke singaar..... from Padosan ? Can the
dialogues in between be counted as part of the song?????
Looking at the trend I feel, it wont be long before a thread on
the 'shortest songs' starts!!!!!!!
That should not be less interesting than the current thread.!!!

Taking the que from Ani, here it is....
The song from QSQT :
Kaahe sataye, kaahe ko rulaye
Raam kare tuzhko neend na aaye
I think thats all that is to the song or is it a prelude to the next song ??

: Ignoring the musical preludes etc., one measure of "longest song"

Dear pratap,
My knowledge of hindi music is not very good but as far as i remember
there is a patriotic song which starts like this
" suno suno aiye baapu ki yeh amar kahani "
I think this song is longer than the kawwali that you mentioned( correct
me if I am wrong)
: Ignoring the musical preludes etc., one measure of "longest song"
Well, if we use the above criterion of the no. of stanzas/couplets, then I
think that the song "Tere pyaar ka aasra chahta hun, wapha kar raha hun, wapha
chahta hun....." would figure among the longest. It has about 10-12 stanzas!!
Actually it is a competition bet. Rajendra kumar and Mala Sinha in the movie
(sung by Mahendra Kapoor and Lata). The quawwali from Barsaat ki Raat might be
longer in terms of total time because most of the lines are repeated 3-4 times
in the song.......
Sami Mohammed (A Naushad fan).....who feels that Roshan was #1 as far as filmi
quawwalis are concerned !!

How can you include Qawwalis in Hindi songs?! Please! We are talking
about *Hindi* songs here! If only you guys could rewind your pea
brains to the 50's, you would recall the longest song in Indian music,
namely, "Hai apna dil to Aawara", which has 5 stanzas in it! The film
CID also has a song with 5 stanzas, "O leke pehla pehla pyaar..." And
there is another song which has 3 stanzas but each of them is very
long (The film and name of the song left to the net gurus as an
elementary exercise).
Flames welcome!
Joey.(The *real* music lover)
Ps: Hindi music of the 90's is utter TRASH !!
Well, if you are talking about "shudhh" Hindi, then you may leave about 99% of
songs from Hindi movies out due to the presence of Urdu words such as dil,
pyaar, beqarar, zindagi, gham etc. You will probably be left with the likes of
"Priya pranseshwari, yadi aap hamy aadesh karen to........" and some of
Neeraj's compositions.

Looks like you need some fine-tuning yourself. People are talking about songs
with 8-12 stanzas, and you are still stuck at 5 ?! Khwab (oops sapnay) dekhna
bundh keejie and scan not only the 50's but the 60's, 70's and 80's as well.

Depends on how you define *real*...
