A sad news indeed. Who can forget his songs in Gumrah.

For some reason, we are losing male singers at a faster rate than the
female singers. Of the famous (by which I mean Golden period) male
singers, we have so far lost Mukesh, Rafi, Kishore, Talat, and now
Mahendar Kapoor. In contrast, only one famous female singer is no
more: Geeta Dutt. God bless them, Lata, Asha, Suman Kalyanpur, and
Shamshad are still around.

Also, Hemant Kumar (who was a composer too). Incidentally,
his 19th death anniversary was just two days back, on
26th September 1989.

No wonder, the English media was more obsessed with Paul Newman's death.
Anandji of KA duo and Shabbir Kumar and few others from Bollywood attended
the funeral of MK. The media was also more obsessed about yet another bomb
going off in Delhi in just 2 weeks.

Here's an opportunity to make a more "cheerful", or, at any rate, less
"morbid", list.

Dhall saahib mentions Mahendra Kapoor singing for Dev Anand. Could we
make a list of songs that fit that criterion, please? Thank you.

PS: Ashok Dhareshwar: where are you?

IIRC, there is a Lata-Mahendra duet- Tomar Aamar in Roop Ki Rani
Choron Ka Raja but not sure whether it was picturised on Dev.

Ashok is in Istanbul and returning on Oct 19.
However he does not seem to be reading lately.

Of the three big guns of that era (RK, Dev, Dilip), Mahendra Kapoor
seems to have sung only for Dilip Kumar in Shakti.
He did sing a song with Lata and Mukesh in Sangam
but his voice was picturized on Rajendra Kumar.

That's what I thought. Seeing Dev Anand's name at #3 in that list, I
tried hard to think of a Mahendra Kapoor song picturized on him and
decided to ask RMIM when I drew a total blank I associate Mahendra
Kapoor's voice more readily with Rajendra Kumar's face Dev's, with
which latter, the name that springs to mind after Rafi's and Kishore's
is Hemant Kumar's.
