Rmim ke bhaaiyo.n or beheno.n,
This series is an offshoot of RJGK-19 which was titled "Indian Classical
music
in Films". It is inspired by a couple of requests to post an explanation of the
relationship between the song and raag for the songs in the quiz.
In this series I pick up a song based on classical music, give the basic
structure of the raag, and provide some notation of the film song to
demonstrate
the likeness between the raag and the geet. Shall try to do this as regularly
as
possible at about a song per week .. unless it gets flamed off or becomes
extin
ct due to poor response.
NOTE THAT THIS SERIES CAN ALSO BE ACCESSED AT

Please point out any corrections in the information provided ..
Geet : mana mohanA baDe jhooTe
Raag : Jaijaiwanti
Jaijaivanti is a very "vakra" (crooked) raag - also there are several different
ways different artists render it. In my opinion, providing an aaroha and
avaroha
for jaijaivanti is not very meaningful. So I am just giving some typical
phrases :
Typical Phrases in the Raag (chalan) :
S, D' n' R, R R G, R G m G R, g R S . P' R, R G , R G m P, D G m G R, g R S.
m P N N S" (or G m D n S"). S n D, m G m G r, g R S..
The phrase : S D' n' R, R R G is more than enough to identify jaijaivanti
Partial Notation of the Geet :
mana mo ha naa ba De jhU Te
SN'S D' n' R R G m G RS
haar ke haar nahi maane
G m Dn S" G m RgRS
bane thhe khilAdi piyA ho ke a nA Di
G m D nD S"S" S"S" PPR" R" R" R"S" S"
mo se bei mA ni kari mu jha se hi rU The
S"nD D DPD n DP mGG G G mGm G RgR S
(Please correct the lyrics)
Arguments/Corrections/Flames welcome :-)

Kedar Naphade
LEGEND : Upper case : Teevra (sharp) notes Lower case : Komal (flat)notes

All problems of existence are essentially problems of harmonium.
That should be
"bane the khilaaDi piya, nikale anaaDi"

> mo se bei mA ni kari mu jha se hi rU The

And there is one more stanza that goes
tumhree yeh baaNsee kanhaa banee ?????
taan sunaa ke meraa tan-man looTe (2)

Corrections, above. No arguments or flames. But a comment :)
Talking about Jaijaivanti, there is a little-known song from
Dekh Kabira Roya. Sung by Manna Dey. Also in Raag Jaijaivanti.
It goes : "bairan ho gayee raina..."
Check it out, its beautiful !

The second stanza to Manamohana Bade Jhoothe is as follows:
Tumhari Yeh Baansi Kaanhaa, Bani Gala Phaansi
Taan Sunake Mera Tan-Man Loote
Superb song, pretty damn hard to sing.

One more, sort of not heard very often is Asha B's from Lal Patthar:
Suni suni saans kay sitaar par,
Bheegay bheegay ansoono kay ..
Same MDs (Shankar-Jai) as in Man Mohana (Seema - Lata M) Extremely good
candidate for comparison between Lata and Asha (same raag, same
musicians)
