i was reading some posts on ramli about asha and lata's married life, and
there was a post saying that lata was once married to (and still is?)
to someone named raj singh dungarpur. is this true at all???? i thought
(and believe me, i feel really stupid saying this) that the only "man in her
life" was chitalkar....

also, who exactly was asha first married to, and under what
circumstances was she married to him? who are her three children
and what are they doing with themselves? does anyone know?

a very inquisitive,

I have not seen the posts and discussion on RAMLI.
I do have some information (only hearsay, of course) in
this regard. But I do not feel it proper to discuss
this on the Net. Let us respect the two ladies' dignity
and privacy.
BTW, "someone named Raj Singh Dungarpur" hardly does
him justice. He is a scion of a royal family. Dungarpur
in Rajasthan is the erstwhile princely state to which he
belongs. He was a cricketer of note in the late fifties
and early sixties, playing as a pace bowler for Rajasthan
in Ranji Trophy. Many believe that he deserved selection
in the national team as a partner for the late Ramakant
Desai. He has been closely associated with cricket as
a selector and administrator for the last many years.
He has been President of the Board of Control for Cricket
in India.

Lata also took a liking to Jaikishan but he got married to a lady named Pallavi
if IIRC. This info is from Raju Bharatan's book. Ravi Krishna says that
Lata - raj Singh marriage was a rumour. However, Raj Singh has/had considerable
influence on Lata and their names have appeared publicly in print. So
Chitalkar was not the only man in Lata's life.

IIRC Asha's 3 children are named Hemant, Varsha and Anand. I believe one
of the brothers has tried his hand at music composition. Varsha is a journo.
Her articles regularly appear at www.rediff.com

BTW, hemant bhosle is a fantastic music director. listen to songs of sweety, damad.

you will not regret it. he also compposed a few songs in marathi like "ja ja ja re
nako bolu ja na.."
its unfortunate that this young MD did not get much recognition.

-- good luck.

Some of Hemant Bhosle's compositions for Marathi songs are quite well
known. He also was the MD for a couple of Hindi movies back in the late
1970s. The one song of his that I remember goes:

laaii kahaa.N hai zi.ndagii
hai saamane ma.nzil merii
phir bhii ma.nzil tak mai.n jaa na sakuu.N
sapano.n kii duniyaa paa na sakuu.N

From TAXI TAXI? I think Dr Mandar mentioned this in his article on
Lata-Asha duets recently.

Varsha Bhosle has sung a handful of Hindi film songs too, but I don't
remember any solos. She's sung for Raam Laxman in TARAANA, a duet with
Usha Mangeshkar ("merii aa.Nkh pha.Dakatii hai") and a song with several
other singers; and she's sung "ha.Ns tuu har dam, khushiyaa.N yaa Gam"
with Kishore and Shivangi Kolhapure? Not a very illustrous record;
certainly she's a far more successful journalist than singer ....

Lata is accompanied on her concert tours with some guy named Sudesh
Bhosle. Who is he? No relation, I take it?

I don't know much about his career or anything, but I can say a little
something about his voice/ability. Last year, I attended a concert of
his....him and no one else. The reason I went was because I rented the
tape of Lata's big concert in Sha.nmukhaana.nd Hall and I noticed that he
had sung with her. I immediately thought to myself, "Man, this guy must be
good to have sung with Lata...." For that concert that I saw on tape, he
sang "musaafir huu.N yaaro.n" and another duet with Lata. And Lata
seemed to be having a whole lot of fun with him on stage....

I decided to go to his concert (in Manhattan) and it turned out to be
really good. He has this amazing ability to like imitate all different
people. He does great imitations of singers including Kishore Kumar,
Amitabh Bachchan, Mukesh, SD Burman, and the list goes on and on. And he
sounds exactly like the people he is trying to imitate. That's what
surprised me so much. Apart from his imitating people, he even has a
nice KK-esque voice (wait a sec...does that make sense? :)

I don't know why he has not been singing in Hindi movies lately. I think
he is really good. I hope that he comes on tour with Lata when she comes
to the US this year.

Sudesh Bhosale is a versatile personality. He first made his mark in the audio
cassetes of 'Vesavkar and Mandali' some years ago. The cassete series was an
instant hit. The cassetes are of beautiful Marathi Koli songs. Some songs which
were quite famous were 'Paro ga Paro vesav chi paro, vara aailay tula vara
aailaya' and 'Dola dolataya varyavar'.
The concept in one of them was that the Hindi film stars come to this koli area
and enjoy the songs. Between every song Sudesh Bhosale has given his voice for
various stars like OmPrakash, Asrani, Ashok Kumar, Sanjiv Kumar, Amjad Khna,
Mithun, Jagdeep, Shatrughna Sinha and many more. Infact he was the only one to
mimic none other than Amitabh Bacchan, a feat which nobody had tried before, not
even Johny Lever the only mimic artist the industry knew about before Sudesh. And
believe me Sudesh has done an excellent job. He also has sung some songs in the
cassete.

After his success in the Vesavkar cassetes Sudesh appeared in various orchestras
and stage shows. He was the main mimicry artist in a very famous orchestra(I dont
remember the name). He gave a new meaning to mimicry and infact there were many
who tried to copy Sudesh ! He can mimic while singing which I think is difficult
to do than normal mimicry.

Sudesh wanted to do something apart from mimicry and since he was very good at
singing, he then went on to film songs. And then suddenly one song put him in
limelight. That was 'Jumma Chumma De De' in Hum which had Amitabh Bacchan asking
Kimi Katkar for a kiss. The song clicked. In fact Sudesh sounds so Amitabh like in
that song that Amitabh himself complimented Sudesh by saying 'You sound more like
Amitabh than I do'. Sudesh then went on to sing many songs in films. He also has
his own album of Amitabh hits. He was also in demand for stage shows and is still
quite popular with the Mumbai crowd. Thats when maybe Lata spotted him and found
him to be quite suited to her shows abroad. Another possible reason why he could
be the choice is that he could sing Kishore's songs quite well( though he is
nowhere near the great). He also shares a great rapport with Asha Bhosale though
he has no relation with her or any of the sisters.

Sudesh also partnered Lata in the Lata Live show at Mumbai on March 7,1997 the
biggest show of all times, attended by a mind boggling fifty thousand fans. I had
attended the show myself and I think Sudesh was quite good. Though I found his
'Musafir hoon yaaro' quite substandard, I felt he was very good in 'Kora Kagaz tha
yeh man mera' with Lata and 'Dekha na hai re socha na'.
One other thing few people might be knowing is that Sudesh comes from a family
which has art in their blood. Infact Sudesh is a fantastic painter himself.
Actually one of my friend lives in Sudesh 's building(apartments) and he used to
tell a lot about Sudesh's all round personality.

Shailesh.

Sudesh Bhosle has sung of course many film track, although not as many as he
would like. You may remember him playbacking for Amitabh from HUM - Jhooma
Chooma De De.

Currently he has his own show on SONY TV called HUM AAPKE HAIN KOUNTDOWN
where he does hilarious take-offs of film personalities.
