Kamal and Rajini together in a Bengali movie!!!!!!

Hi:
I got this news from a friend back home. It seems that Mithun Chakraborthy
is making a Bengali movie with KamalHaasan and Rajinikanth in it.
Its called BHAGYA DEVATA. Mithun is the hero, who is an ordinary
clerk in a Government office, trying to break away from poverty. Rajini
and Kamal appear in _extended_ guest roles in the movie. Rajini is
a Kurta-Pyjama clad romantic Bengali poet called Sudendu Roy. Kamal
is a Drama artiste who appears in different costumes throughout the
movie. They both advise Mithun and help him achieve his goals.
I cant believe it. Even if my friend has managed to pull a fast one,
he's done an amazing job. He narrated this in deadpan, and was
absolutely convincing. I have no reason not to believe this. So,
I wonder if someone else has heard about this and can confirm or deny
this. I only hop its true!!!!!!

Your friend is absolutely right. Filming for "Bhagya
Devatha" has indeed started. It was a surprise to me
too. But this was reported in "Ananda Vikatan" and
3 of my friends in India have also confirmed the news
independently.
As for more news about it, you seem to have covered
everything about it except that the Director is
Dance Director Raghuram, the Story is by "Vietnam
Veedu" Sundaram and Production by Mithun.
Let's hope Mithun's luck clicks at least with the
help of the one and only true artiste - KH !!!

I can't believe it!!! Kamal Hassan and Rajanikanth in the same
movie? I sure am looking forward to seeing these two pair up again. I
believe the only movie they have done together is Pathinaru Vayardhinilae
which also had Sri Devi acting in it.

You are wrong in that padhinaaru vayadhinile is the only KH-Rajni
starrer. In fact a whole whole bunch of movies were made around
that time with Rajni as KH's traditional villain!!! Shall give U
names later.

Out of the eight (ignoring the Hindi one), 4 are of Balachander's, 1
of Bharathiraja and 1 of Sridhar...All premier directors...Does that

BTW, Giraftaar was a Hindi movie, and not Tamil as you claimed!
It had Amitabh also , besides KH and Rajni. But it was more of
a Kamal movie, with the other two appearing only from around
the interval. It was the only coming together of the most
successful Indian actor and the most versatile Indian actor.
It could have been a great chance to produce a memorable movie.
But, unfortunately, it was pretty badly scripted - perhaps too
much masala to accomodate the star values!

that KB wants to make a movie with KH, Rajni and the one-

yes the news is true. the shooting is taking place in madras. the director
is dance master raguram & story is by vietnam veedu sundaram. the first choice
for the roles were rajini & sivaji. sivaji when contacted, said it seemed too
much of a strain and asked them to get in touch with kamal.
2 schedules r complete & the movie is scheduled to be released on May 1.

I can't remember Rajini's first movie with Kamal and Sri-Vidhya. The
famous song that used to be televised in the Oli-Oli was "Kelviyin Nayakane enn
kelvikuu pathil ethaiya..." in it and he stars as the villain. My mom used to
tell me that was Rajini's first movie too.

The film you are talking about is "Apoorva Ragam" which had a very nice
musical score. In addition to the song you mention, it had the song "Yezhu
svarangalukkul ethanai paaDal", a nice composition, very beautifully rendered
by Vani Jairam. The title song is also very nicely sung by Yesudas.
I am not sure if it was Rajini's first film, but it most certainly is very
early in his career. I recently saw the film again, and it was very nicely
acted by Kamalahassan, Rajini and Srividya. Jayasudha and Major Sounderrajan
got on my nerves after a while though, mainly because all their scenes seemed
very stereotypical, both in terms of their dialog and the acting. However,
the film as a whole is refreshingly different from the run of the mill stuff.

While on the movies they acted together, I remember 'Thillu Mullu' *ing Rajini,
Madavi and directed by KB. Kamal? Figure that out for yourself. He does appear in
TM. And both appear in guest roles in YGMahendran's 1st movie as a hero. The name
of the movie refuses to leave the tip of my tongue. Sivaji is there too. They
come as human forms of God helping YGM. The title has got 'deivangal' or some
equivalent in it (I think). Kamal dances for some 'dabbankuthu' song. Remember
"Saidapettai vadakari" figures in the song.

(sp? "STAR"). Sripriya was the heroine (acts as the movie star) and
Kamal acts in a song sequence with her (fairly good song, music by
Shanker-Ganesh, "Ponnanganni Pooththu...") and Rajini acts in a stunt
scene

Another movie in which Kamal and Rajni both had guest roles, apart from th4e
one and only Sivaji Ganeshan and Jaishankar, is the movie "Uravangal Maaralam"
The hero is surprisingly YG MAHENDRAN and the heroine SUHASINI!
The movie is a comedy in which God appears in the garb of various cinema stars
in front of a very devout YGM. The famous R-cubed trio produced, directed,
scored music etc etc.... for this movie. It was entertaining in the first half
but couldn't hold up to the ENGLISH ORIGINAL (i forget the name) towards the
end.

Is it possible to filter just a few subjects to showup
on my xrn window ?
Or can someone propose a soc.culture.tamil.movies/movie songs
or something of that sort. It seems to have a huge following
with articles on movies filling up the whole newsgroup. I find
it hard to search other 'interesting' articles related to
tamil culture.
