Hi Friends,

To add value to Subu's article (posting) regarding the Shiv-Hari duo and their
compositions, it must be noted that most of us find the songs/music in the
movies SILSILA, CHANDNI, LAMHE etc., very melodious and soothing.

The reason is their music is based mostly on the Pahadi dhun and raag/raga
Pahadi. The two instruments flute and santoor lend themselves perfectly
to the mood of this raag. Shiv-Hari's music is not just any fun composition but
based on their deep understanding of Classical Music and the ability to create
moods and waves of emotions among the audience.

Most of us must have heard their composition in "THE CALL OF THE VALLEY".
This is a typical example of the feelings that they can make run through
the listeners nerves. While hearing their music one feels like being in the
valleys and hills, probably since we are preconditioned to associating
the jingling of the santoor with the hills of Kashmir probably not.

Personally I feel that the raag Pahadi has the power to relax a listener
whoever he/she may be and from whatever country/background.

If ever there is an opportunity for any of you to attend a live concert of
Pt.ShivKumar or Pt.Hariprasad, DO NOT MISS IT. This is only for those who have
never attended a classical musical concert. I bet U'll enjoy it.

While still on Shiv-Hari's music..didnt they also do the score for 'Sahibaan'.
Could some one confirm.

If yes, then was Sahibaan there first non Yash Chopra film?

A little diverging thread..Yash Chopra seems to be fond of unconventional
music directors..and probably thats why comes up with great music for most of
his movies. He had Hridyanath Mangeshkar for 'Mashaal' and Shiv-Hari for
Silsial, Chandni and Lamhe. Anybody remeber the MD for Faasle, Noorie and
Parampara.

The MD for Noorie was Khaiyyam and the MDs for Faasle were Shiv-Hari again.

Not exactly an answer to your question, but there's another Yash Chopra film
Aaina for which he had the duo Dilip Sen-Samir Sen. They might be yet another
of the Nadeem-Shravan, Anand-Milind, Jatin-Lalit types, but I have no idea
about that.

Hope that helps.

"Faasle" had music by Shiv-Hari, "Noorie" by Khayyam. I do not know about
"Parampara".
