Hint: Baz Luhrmann.

One that immediately comes to mind is the song
from Pardes -- 'ye mera iNDiyaa, ##I love my India##"
-UVR.
One of the better songs to come from the baton of Anu Malik - "shaam hai
duaan dhuaan......." by Purnima in Diljal - a very catchy beat. It also had
some 'words' by A. Puri, IIRC. Also there was the "double entendre" song in
Karan Arjun, "...mujhako ranajii maaf karanaa, galatii mhaare se ho
gayii...".

Happy Listenings.
Satish Kalra
Movie Badal -2000 - had a song "Jugni Jugni" by AP & Co
Plus, there must be innumerable songs where the poor heroine(s) has to
dance in the villain's den and Amrish Puri the villain and his cronies
pitch in with some lines - Tridev, Karan Arjun etc...

Altogether a nice composition. A favourite with Purnima herself.
In TV programmes and live concerts, she would always sing this
song.

Add DDLJ's "ai merii zohra jabiin...." immediately after "ye kudiyaan....ye
munde...".
That was my hint. Chumma Chumma from China Gate was used by Baz
Luhrmann in Moulin Rouge. The credits mention Anu Malik. Amrish Puri
had danced and sung in that song. The entire group did the same during
the Filmfare awards function that year too and he got a round of
applause (I think he was in mid 60s then!).
China Gate was inspired by Akira Kurosawa's 'The Seven Samurai'. The
chap who played the dacoit leader was quite good. Actually, it was not
a bad adaptation.
Aside: And this is a topic for RAMLI. Puri was a chameleon, like Shashi
Kapoor. His roles in parallel cinema display supreme skills while he
seems to "have fun" in mainstream cinema and ham it up a bit Puri was
supremely brilliant in Kalyug, Nishant, Bhumika, Vijeta and the like.
Fine restrained acting.
Please post follow ups to the last para only on RAMLI.
Cheers

He also sung part of a song in 'Karan Arjun'. The 'item song'
Gup Chup has some lines uttered by Puri.
Regarding Puri's acting skills in mainstream cinema, he was
quite good in 'Gardish' and also in 'Chachi 420'. quitye apart from
the melodramatic villians he usually played otherwise. His talent
was best exposed by Shyam Benegal in his movies.
Was a part of Oye Oye in Tridev (the version where girls sing in the
climax).
I was going through his IMDB profile. I don't remember Qurbaani. Was
that his first movie as a villain? main stream villain?
but There was a 'Gold' of a full song in a film called 'Kundan' (KC
Bokadia).. Amrish ji tried to mix rap/classical singing in that
particular song.. .. We used to enjoy that song very much.. The Legend
of HAM Songs in a legendary HAM film.. as funny as the Dharamyoddha
song of ARR..
Pavan
There was also a song in the movie "Doli Sajake rakhna" (1998) -
"Chal Kheva re Kheva re"
Had AP as the leader of some fishermen, IIRC

There is an instance in Sooraj Ka Saatwa Ghodaa
when Amrish Puri sings a song qua villain, but it's
a beautiful song sung with a lasciviousness very
appropriate for the situation. Puri's character in
the film is a fornicator whose designs on a pretty
but poor girl are thwarted by her strong sense of
virtue and her capacity to strike back deters the
villain. Finally he finds a way by 'buying' rights to
her by paying her surrogate uncle money for it,
and the girl finds herself helpless. A triumphant
Puri is dressing up for the occasion to bring home
his conquest, and he hums 'main to dilli se dulhan
laayaa re, babuji' in front of his mirror. Strictly
speaking, it's not 'a song filmed on Puri', but 'Puri
filmed humming a song, from Jhoola (1941)'; but
it isn't just 'filmed' on him, he supplies the vocals
to it.
In an interview, Puri had said 'sehra sajaake rakhna'
was his favourite song. So his taste in music was
terrible, to put it mildly. But when sprinkled with
a beauty from 1940s, the man was purified for
that short instance, and provided a memorable
shot worth watching and also worth listening to.
