If it is, pretty impressive for her to perform live and sing a Punjabi
song at that! I did hear somewhere that Mala Sinha the actress had a
good singing voice. Please view the video and let me know your
thoughts. Thanks!

Seems to be the same Mala Sinha alright - and she sings quite well!
Which gives me another opportunity to raise a question that I have
asked here before in vain: which are the film songs Mala Sinha has
sung (Nepali and/or Hindi)?

Warm regards,
Abhay

Yes she sang a full song with manhar in the movie lalkar (1972).
"Mere mehboob meri baat tumhe kya maloom"

I hate to change the subject from Mala Sinha. But another actress (a
very good one), Nutan, was also an excellent singer. She sang six (out
of seven) songs in the movie Chhabili (1960, Snehal Bhatkar). Thanks
to Satish ji, I have three of these songs and have been trying to get
the others without much luck. I understand Nutan used to sing at the
Filmfare award functions.

it seems only 5 songs are generally available from Chhabili.
The two songs which do not seem to be available are

1) o my daarling o my sweeti tujhpe fidaa haaye meraa dil - Nutan &
Mahendra Kapoor
2) hey bahu hey baba bahu dil pe zaraa rakhnaa kaaboo - Nutan

The five available are

1) leharo.n par lehar - Hemant Kumar
2) leharo.n par lehar - Hemant Kumar + Nutan
3) yaaro.n kisi se naa kehnaa - Geeta Dutt + Nutan
4) ai mere hamsafar - Nutan
5) milaale haath lo ban gayi - Nutan + Sudha Malhotra

I believe Nutan also sang one song in 'Hamari Beti' (1950).

Make that six (that are readily available). I do have, courtsey of
Satish ji, "Hey babu hey baba babu." It is an absolutely beautiful
song, sung in a fast temp (rock-n-roll beat). I am missing #2 and #3
from the available list and #1 from the non-available list. I'll be
very much intereseted in getting whatever songs I can from Chhabili.
In return, I'll put my entire list of CDs (over 700) on the available
list. Of course, those of you who were at the Denver RMIM meeting,
already have songs from my iPod (over 12,600) which are also now
available on Surjit Singh's site.
