Interesting write up by Prof . I was really surprised to find
Prithviraj Kapoor as the villain in Alam Ara .
Did the film had two villains Jagdish Sethi & Prithviraj Kapoor ?
Kapoor normally played the role of a hero / character actor /
Supporting role .
I was told that Yadon ki Barat had two powerful villains , Ajit & ?
do not know the other guy .

do you mean the yaado.n ki baaraat where aamir made his debut? it only
had ajit as the main villain. imtiaz khan and shetty were his lackeys.
but they were not powerful enough on their own.

Aha! The mere mention of 'Yaadon Ki Baaraat' opens floodgates of
sweet boyhood memories and brings about a tingling sensation. The
film and everything else in it hold a hallowed place in my heart. It
was a delight to see an oldtimer like Kammu Sahab mentioning the
film. Anyway, the film had only one villain Ajit.

But I am surprised to see VRK ji associating the film as 'Aamir's
debut film'. Come on VRK ji, please do not degrade the film as
Aamir's debut vehicle - he did absolutely nothing in it worth
remembering. The film is remembered today for 'Chura liya hai
tumne' , 'Aapke kamre mein', 'Meri soni meri tamanna', and Zeenat
Aman. I would have asked this question: "Do you mean the Yaadon Ki
Baaraat of Zeenat Aman?" These are other memorable ingredients of the
film:

1. Other splendid songs (read RDB's music)
2. Dharmendra
3. Vijay Arora
4. Ajit

I have heard in the past that the first Indian film is Alam Ara. Also
that no copy of this is found. Have things changed and there is a
copy in existence.

Regards.

First talkie, not first film. Yes, Alam Ara is widely accepted to be
the first Indian film with sound.

No. There are no known copies - not even one shot - in existence.
There are no known copies of the songs; indeed there were no discs
released and the songs were only on the film. Some stills from the
film and the publicity material are all that survive. Sad.

Thanks Chetan

This is what I understood. It is unbelievable that such a historic
film should just disappear without leaving a trace.

Regards.
