* India's Leading Hindi film Producer Manmohan Desai Dies

Manmohan Desai, Hindi Cinema and India show Biz's most success-
ful film maker who reigned supreme for about three decades with his
rare blend of commercial entertainers, died on Tuesday after a fall
from his third floor residence at Khetwada in Central Bombay. He was 58.
On hearing of his demise, people made a bee line for his
Jeevan Complex building named after his wife which houses his office.
According to film industry sources, the reputed film maker was
keeping indifferent health for the last six months and had spells of
nervous breakdowns. His wife had also died under similar circumstances.
Staff members of his office in the ground floor said they found
him lying unconscious after he fell at around 13:00 hours. He was
immediately rushed to his residence where doctors declared him dead.
Meanwhile police said the body was removed to the J.J hospital
for postmortem. Police were probing whether it was a case of suicide or
accidental death.
Manmohan Desai churned out four stupendous hits "Parvarish",
"Dharam Vir", "Amar Akbar Anthony", "Chacha Bhatija" in a single year in
1970 to earn the distinction of being filmdom's most successful
director.
Son of Kikubhai Desai, noted film producer and studio owner,
Manmohan Desai opted for a career in films after doing intermediate
arts from St.Xavier college and became an assistant to Babubai Mistry.
"Chhalia" starring Raj Kapoor and Nutan was his first directed
film at the age of 21 and was produced by his brother Subhash Desai
released in 1960, the film was superhit followed by "Bluff
Master", "Kismat" and "Sachcha Jhoota".
