Jaikishen (of Shankar-Jaikishen) was born in 1929 and died in 1971. A
lifespan of only 42 years !!! A real loss for us music-lovers. Does
anybody know what he died from ?
Google did not help.
Paddy.

OK.
But as far as I know, Shailendra committed suicide. Because,he
invested all his earnings in Teesri Kasam (1966) and the film flopped

Bhairavi stays at Juhu Tara Road. She is a famous fashion
designer. Her mother of course is also.

Add to the list (those dying from excessive drinking):
Singers KL Sehgal and Geeta Dutt & music directors Shyam Sunder and
Madan Mohan. Unfortunately, there are probably many more.

I am surprised to read name of Mukeshji in your list.
This is the first time i read his name in the list of Drinkers.
Let me clarify that even the daughter of KL Saigal has once clearly
told on a TV interview that his father name came in front of his
childeren as a drinker; he used to maintain such discipline.

No..Shailendra did not commit suicide. That he could have died of an
illness that resulted from excessive drinking is though not ruled out.

While it cannot be denied that Jaikishan drank a lot, he did not
exactly die through excessive drinking. He cound not refrain from
drinking even as he got hepatitis.

I was under the impression that Jaikishan's death happened overnight -
suddenly and unexpectedly. That in a single night he drank too much
and died of alcohol overdose. Thanks for the correction. My guess is
that his health was not properly monitored by physicians otherwise the
death would have been more expected (sort of as it was for Madan
Mohan). Maybe Jaikishan didn't realize just how serious of a drinking
problem he had? What a pity - he was my favorite MD. What an impact he
could have made in the 70s!

On a side note speaking of drinkers and what not - how come Lata
Mangeshkar "tolerated" Madan Mohan's drinking? I heard that he'd come
inebriated to the studio recordings of the Laila Majnu songs and Lata
actually tried to counsel and help him! She tried to convince him to
get a hold of himself. From what I hear of the "puritan" Lata, I'd
expect her to avoid such atmospheres (as many other people like me
would prefer to do).

it seems that no member of Jaikishan family is now associated with the
music / film world; as very little is heard about his childrens & wife
and their whereabout...

Any one can share informations if availalbe...

They may not be part of the film world but his wife Pallavi and
daughter Bhairavi are prominent fashion designers.

Manna De and Bhupen Hazarika were serial drunkards who lived a long life. Even Dev Sahab used to love hos scotch although he gave up smoking once he was past 50. All the Kapoors- Randhir, Rishi, Rajiv are big time alcoholics and have crossed 60.

Kal Aaj Aur Kal was perhaps one of the very last movies Jai recorded. Bhanwre ki gunjan was his composition and so was the Manna De solo from the same film. Zindagi ek safar hai suhana was the last super duper hit delivered by Jai before he passed away.
