There were some posts about the word Amad. I had an interesting
conversation with a few Iranian friends.
The word Khoda ( we say Khuda) is actually derived from Khud Amad. Self
realization. the ultimate reality in self.
Any thoughts about it?

I don't think this has any relevance to RMIM.....
AFAIK, in modern Farsi pronunciation, the longer "o"
is often used in place of the shorter "u" which is
employed in many Urdu words. For instance, we say
"turshi" in Urdu ("khaTTapan" or sourness). In Farsi,
I think it is pronounced as "Torshi". Torshi is also an
item at an Iranian meal. (I didn't say "Irani", as
this word has another connotation in India -- like
Irani Restaurants.)
"KHoda" in Farsi may be used in the same sense as
"deity". Even Parsis refer to God as "KHoda".
I do not know about "KHud Amad". Maybe, the word is
"KHudawaNd", which is perhaps used in the sense of
"Master" or "Aaqa".
Shri Bodas : you seem to know quite a few Irani people.
Won't it be better if you consulted them about these
matters and then conveyed their answers for our
information ? In this NG, a few people know a little Urdu,
but Farsi is something else.
Afzal
I hardly know many Iranians or Arabs. With my little knowledge about
Farsi or Arabic how ever I do speak to them if I meet them. One gets
lot of information. True few understand Urdu though many like me
pretend. Most of the words in Urdu have Farsi origin. The ones, which
have Arabic origin, may have come through Farsi as Arabic influenced
Farsi as Arabs ruled Persia for a long time. Even the script has Arabic
impact. P is replace by F by Arabs, as they could not say P in Arabic.
Arabs also often replace P by B. I was asked often in Arab land if I
was from Bakistan or do not Bark here when they meant Park. But this is
the problem many languages have as certain sounds are missing in
certain languages.
The word Kiblah has different meaning in Urdu (as spoken) than what it
means in Arabic.
Khudavand is not the word I was talking about.
Parsis do talk about Khoda. But they have different philosophy.
I often hear Khoda Hafiz replaced by Allah Hafiz by many. Both mean the
same
