every type including those recorded for films after 1947.

Thanks, Jay. Will surely place Dombivli on my itinerary.

Jay,
That's a cop-out. You love to accuse RMIMers of being stupid and
uninformed and lacking the passion to probe and analyse. Yet I have
never seen you do what you preach unto others. You either insult or
flame or post a query/challenge intended not to inform buto expose
others' ignorance and rarely mention a song or a list (but without any
analysis). Why not share your expertise and write about Zeenat Begum -
her career, output, singing style, strengths, composers she worked
with and any other analysis? You talk so much about your deeper
understanding, maturity and analysis but hardly any of that has been
seen in your RMIM postings.
RMIMers may not have as much knowledge or collection as you have but
they share what they have and help others. Some examples are Surjit's
site, RMIM commemorative tapes or the recent thread where the Rajhath/
Do Gunde mystery was collectively solved. You share your knowledge and
analysis and you will be surprised at the respect and love you will
get at RMIM.
Cheers,
Kapalik
A singer from Shamashad Begum era. I have a few songs of her. One
comes to mind "Koi mun mein bolay".
Ahmad
Thats not Shamshad,Gentleman !!
Its from "Kaise Kahun"('45) - Koi mun mere bole...Zeenat Begum under
Pt.Amarnath; Lyrics: D.N.Madhok
Jein-o-Phone record JP/1090
All of the above info I have typed in a ready reckoner
style....INSTANT reply
Mr Kapalik should take a note of this before retorting any 'bakwas'
Well, I have now shared with you and many on this forum a very candid
number of ZB. Have you or anyone heard it?
I am ready to play it for you, not once but any no.of times FREE
FREE....but you will have to PAY A PRICE for that?
Are you ready??

Please re-read what Ahmad had said above

You are repeating what Ahmad had already mentioned - with some stats
added.
> I am ready to play it for you, not once but any no.of times FREE
> FREE....but you will have to PAY A PRICE for that?
Is that some kind of a Faustian bargain that you are driving at? :)
Kapalik
I don't make bargains...frank and open always. Ahmed could have
straight disclosed her name (whichever) if he knew it was ZB. I think
he was NEVER AWARE of her credibility. So, he cleverly put his post as
" a singer from Shamshad era"...that shielded him from any doubts he
did have deep inside him.

I appreciate that knowledge that Jaysab have on music & music related
people. However; majority us this group do not have little knowledge
and hence there is a big gap of knowledge between us and Jay.That is
the reason Jaysab sometime behaves rudely or looks aerogent sometimes.
I can understand such things and always happens to those in any field
having sheer/deep knowledge of that particular field and not being
appreciated by the rest society.
Thanks.... V.BHATT
Jay,
I am not sure who is being 'ignorant' here. When the title of this
thread clearly says "Zeenat Begum", where was the need for Ahmed to
"disclose" the name? He just qualified with a statement that she was
from the Shamshad era. He even mentioned one song by her, but you were
quick to misinterpret it as "ignorance" assuming something that suited
you - that Ahmed was attributing that song to Shamshad. And when
someone points that out, you don't admit your mistake but go on
harping about something completely frivolous. According to you, is
there one - one single soul except you - who is not ignorant about HFM
on this planet?
Aditya
You could very well be true about Jay's knowledge but all I can tell
from his RMIM postings is that he has a huge collection of old HFM
songs - more than most RMIMers. I don't think that is enough to make
someone knowledgable or an expert. If he were to post something more
than insults, questions and lists and maybe some analysis, we could
tell. The one time I saw some analysis from him (regarding an old Rafi
song), it wasn't impressive.
Kapalik
I have found 2 other songs of Zeenat Begum; "Woh bhola balam kya
janey", and "Dardey Mohabbat"; the second one I find to be my
favourite of hers..
I am sure I have some more of hers among my old Cassettes.
Ahmad
Bhatt Sahib,
I respectfully disagree with you. No one has a right to belittle any one.
Having more knowledge does not give any one the right to comment about
others. Jay may know a lot in the specific area he cares about. However,
music, like food, is a matter of taste. Jay is entitled to his choices. But,
he does not know much about any one else's knowledge or skills. He may think
he does, but he does not. His approach is to ask some question and just
because people ignore his question, he says they don't know. Well, he can
say that. That does not make it the truth.
Jay will share his knowledge with you but, you have to pay the price (go to
Dombivali, and listen to what he has to say). Well that is indeed his
prerogative. But, that does not make him great. Even God, if (S)He refuses
to come to earth to take care of humans, is irrelevant.
It is more important to have "insaaniyat" and decency towards one's fellow
humans than sing one's own praises.
Personally, I have benefited more from the generosity of many RMIMers
(knowledge, access to music I did not have and simple friendship) than I
will even if I could make the Dombivali pilgrimage a million times. What
good is Jay's knowledge or his music collection if bulk of it will go to
dust when he dies.
Jay says he does not care. I say, right on chum, good luck to you. It was
nice knowing you.
Cheers...
Deepak
You, I, or any Tom, Dick& Harry including the entire race of human
beings and their materialistic belongings however valued they
be ....IS / ARE continually 'going to dust' one by one & one after the
other during every moment of our LIVES.
Can you deny this harsh TRUTH OH LIFE?
What then remains??? Only the 'LOVE' remains .
SO SO SO!
Why should " I " (the human being Jay, dubbed as the rude / arrogant /
egoistic and what not..) bother or care to retort to some worthless ,
half-baked knowledged crap's insinuations???
Jay
4/3
Jay,
Rude / arrogant / egoistic are not my words. Those are your words.
Read my post again. My only point is that you have not earned the
right to call any one else any names either.
You say you don't care, but you do care about what people say. Why
else are you constantly putting down the contribution made by
Harmandir or Professor or any one. Their contribution may not be
valuable to you. So what? It is valuable to me. I thank them for their
contribution. When, on few rare occasions, you make a contribution, I
say thanks to you.
Cheers...
Deepak
Itsok, Deepak..so be it . Any one is free to idolize whoever h/she
wants/likes. Nothing wrong in that. Just as you are anyone else has
his/her opinions (on cine music in particular) under any
classification, so too, Jay has in his own way..whether the world
accepts or not. I stick to my views, even if I were to be ALONE in
this world. I know very well, these forum does not have a single he/
she who can put in lively interest in POSITIVE enlightenment on many a
info unknown and needs thorough revelation.
In order to accomplish this, one should possess a craving' inherently
as to: what does this man constantly naggin-n-saying every now and
then. Have you all made any introspection in this regard. Ask
youselves a hundred and onetimes like: why am I ( you individuals)
unable to give this Jay a beffitting reply for his questions. What is
lacking in me despite my present status and them abundance of
websites,cds/dvds/and all media ,etc available at instant notice?
WHY ?
WHY??
Why have you all unable to pinpoint the answerto my simple question on
the MY BEST OF LATA. Never mind of my choice...but atleast for the
sake of Lata and Varma Malik !!
I don't bother if the whole world denounces me constantly Your
criticisms bounce off. Because I am 101%sure none of you will be able
to pinpoint the answer...its so easy and well known. I think I even
played the record before you during that afternoon when you came
over .

As people gain more knowledge and wisdom, they become humble
and tolerant, respectful of others.
Only people who suffer from extreme inferiority complex throw
rocks at others or insult them. Also, when age catches up with them,
their thoughts/wetting become incoherent, and they just ramble stuff
without context. If you don't believe me, just read replies posted
in the past by the subject in question.
Posters here become suckers most of the time and get entangled.
(Once in a while there is a reasonable post by the subject with
relevant information.) Just follow what Daniel Patrick Moynihan said (quiz).
AJ
I have now digitised the Zeenat Begum songs and the list is as
follows.
"Aye do jahan waley, aye aasman waaley"
"Dardey mohabbat"
"Zabt kar na dilay "
"Woh bhola balam kya janey".
Of the above 4, "Dardey mohabbat aah say keh do", is exceptional,
where lyrics, sentiments and voice jel to make a great song.
If I were to make a list of of my favourite 200 songs, I think this
will feature among it.
Ahmad
I will be happy to e-mail this song to Prof. Surjit Singh if he would
feature it on his web.
I wonder who the lyrics are from and who the music director is.
As usual the knowledgeable members from this group may respond.
Film - Dhamki
MD - Pandit Amar Nath
Lyrics-D.N.Madhok
Regards,
Irfan
Thanks Irfan for this information. D N Madhok was a great lyricist I
think. Also Pandit Amarnath the MD.
The song if you know it has a rhythm and a beat that reminds me of
Waltz.
Ahmad
'dard e mohabbat' is already available at Surjit's website.
Assuming that the given mukhda/s are correct, would somebody
give the stats of:
"Zabt kar na dilay "
"Woh bhola balam kya janey"
-uzx
The second one is from Sahara 1943. Still looking for the first one.
>
> -uzx
Another very popular song from this singer that I should have
mentioned is "Lo phir yaad kisi ki aayee".
Ahmad
Parda-nashin 42.. ai aah mere zabt ki/Ram Dulari
Sassi Punnu 46 .. zabt kar behar e khuda/ Durrani
May be the one listed by Mr Ahmad is a non-film song.
-urzung khan
I have listened to this song again and it may be by Waheedan Bai,
although the Cassette sent to me lists it as Zeenat Begum.
"Zabt karna diley (razee) ? na kaheen -- chot lug jaye gee kaheen na
kaheen".
Ahmad.
Briefly.....
Zeenat Begum was a kothewali... tawaa'if. Her first recorded songs
.. Non Film.. appeared around 1937... mostly Punjabi and mostly
composed by Pandit Amarnath for HMV and Jienophone. Had been a
prominent artist of Lahore radio upto late 50s.
Her bumber success in film playbacking came with Mangti 1942
[Punjabi].
Her songs were super hits and are still liked and listned. MD was
Pandit Govind Ram. This was the first Golden Jubli movie produced in
Lahore. Her other notable films are Chaand, Daasi, Rehana, Shalimar,
Koel, Shehar Se Door, Panchi.
In 1945 she recorded four solos on 78rpm in place of NoorJahan **
as NJ had refused to record them for some reasons. Two of these..
apane na ho sake and chupke se dil men aa base .. are very well sung.
After partition, new singers got hold of the playback business. Zeenat
got very few songs. She re-established her kotha... and died around
late 60s.
** The movie was Bhai Jaan 1945.
-urzung khan
I am adding the text of "Dardey mohabbat", with a gap that Urzung Khan
may be able to fill in, as I can not decipher it.
Kalka bharosa kown karey - is (........ ) na aaye na aaye.
Palkown mein rukh kay ek aansoo - pehlay pehlay bol utha.
. Jis nay mohabbat kee is dunya mein - bebas ho kay ashk bahaye.
With regard to use of Capital N, for noon ghunna, I find it a bit
disconcerting, as it impedes the flow, and there is no need for using
capital N as I have shown above as all will see the correct sound in
context ?.
Ahmad
Just came across this post. Is it possible that the word "(razee)" is
actually "hazeeN" -- it certainly fits the context:
zabt karna dil-e-hazeeN na kaheeN
choT lag jaayegi kaheeN na kaheeN
-UVR.

Urzungji,
When you talk of Mangati, you must be knowing the lyricist of this
movie was Nand Lal Noorpuri. He also sang the famous song of this
movie......ud jaa bholeya
panchhiya with Zeenat Begum. To know more about him you may read here:
Mangati's booklet and an old book, published in 1945, about
song-writers
mention him to be lyrics writer of Mangati. May be he was the
co-singer
of 'bholeya panxhhiyaa'.
