In Delhi, the price of CDs ranged from Rs 300-500, which
is not much different from the cost over here. BTW most were pressed
in India itself.

Two readers have correctly replied to this question. So far CDs are made
overseas and Indian market is very limited. There is 125% custom duty even
though the CDs are made by Indian companies in overseas plant. As the
number of CD players in India will increse price will come down. Two
plants are being installed to manufacture CDs in India. That too will
bring the price down.
Classical CDs are sold around Rs 350 to 500 range (US $ 13 to 15) T series
which always competes in prices is selling their own brand for even Rs
150. But then that brand is also available for US $ 6 here.
In US prices are slowly declining from $ 15 to $ 13.for classical. $ 10
for film music.

Popular and classical music in Britain on CD are typically between
£12-£15 GBP.

Bhangra and Jungle CDs in Southall, Middx are typically £7.50, although
I have found a place near Upton Park, E7 that charges £5 to £6.
Classical Indian music, whether produced in UK or India sell at a higher
price or at least at the standard price of £7.50.

Nimbus is a small CD recording studio and CD production facility. They
use minimal mic techniques and take great care in the manufacturing
process. They record western music and a large number of 'world' music.
Recordings of top Indian classical musicians sell in the main high
street shops for £14, in Asian shops for £7.50.

CD prices in the UK are a rip off - however the best and most original
music is coming from the Bhangra and Jungle scene and CDs are more
reasonably priced. I have heard recently that there are over 900
Bhangra groups in the UK. However only a few groups consistantly sell
well.

available)that sells Indian classical music on CDs in London? I will be
visiting London soon and would like to browse through the shops.
