Recently I was watching Ziddi starring Dev Anand. Music director of film is
Khemchand Prakash (never mind that the title credit shows Anil Biswas!). At
one point the backgroud music sounded very familiar. Rewind - Play and yes,
and I recalled that the same music/tune is used as interludes in a later film
called Muqaddar. Interestingly Khemchand Prakash-Kishor Kumar link continues
thorugh this 1950 film (Ziddi followed by Rimjhim followed by this one).

Is this common ? How many such instances took place ? I remember reading that
some fragments of Jane Kahan Gaye Wo Din (Mera Naam Joker) can be heard on
Barsat soundtrack. Any more ?

This is not directly related to the post, but the famous violin piece
which opens (and occurs throughout) "Jaane Kahan Gaye Woh Din" is taken
from a Western Classical composition. I can't remember which one but will
look it up and post it here later. Anyone remember this off the top of
their heads?

Dear Snehal: I remember one famous bit of background music in one RK picture
that later became a song in another RK picture.
At the end of the film "Awara", during the prison scene, the
background music and the song "O basa.ntee pavan paagal" in
"Jis desh mein ga.ngaa bahtee hai" are one and the same. Please
watch carefully if you have videos. Regards! - J. K. Mohana Rao

Going outside Hindi films, yes there is atleast one instance. The background
music of Stanley Kubrick's "Dr. Strangelove" got turned into Rajesh Roshan's
"Na bole tum na maine kuch kaha" from Baton Baton Main(?) as far as the first 3
lines of the mukhdaa go. However, to me, this piece of background music sounds
like a marching tune itself, so even Kubrick may have used an existing tune for
his movie's BG music.

The famous soundtrack of Clint Eastwood's "The Good the bad and the
Ugly" got songified (made into a song) in a Sanjay Kapoor movie.
Kind of vaguely recollect the song.

Taking Snehal's post on background music from one score being turned into songs
for another film, there are numerous instances of that happening.

Shankar Jaikishan did that frequently. The isntance of O basanti pawan paagal
ahs already been mentioned on this thread earlier. Some other songs that come
to my mind right off the bat are:

1. Thehar zara o jaane wale in Boot Polish,. In this case actually, the
mukhada itself was used in Aawara.

2. Din albele pyaar ka mausam chanchal man mein tuufaan from Begunaah - can't
remember the name of the film in which the tune was played in the BG music.
But I do know I have the video of that film, since I saw it recently and is
fresh on my mind.

S.D. Burman also did that, often. Some of his background music in Baazi led to
the songs "oonche sur mein gaaye jaa" in House No. 44, and "de diya to le le
dil, yun nahin to chupke mil" in Munimji. (Or is it le liya to de de dil..?
:-)

There must be numerous other instances. Roshan's number in Bheegi Raat "dil jo
na keh sakaa" is to be found in the background music in not only his own,
earlier Aarati, but also in his much earlier "Naubahaar".

And the list may go on and on....
Happy listenings.

In AWARA (1952) the " O basanti pawan pagal.." song is played in background umpteen times.  In the same fils the Anari song, " KIsi ki muskarahtone pe ho nishar " is als played.  In Sangam you can hear  BRahmchari song, : Mat ho meri jaan udas fe times"

So long thi remaind with the same MD it is ok as it is their creation.

I had the same experience while watching CID recently. Suddenly, the
background sounded very familiar - it was the tune of "mohabbat kar lo
jii bhar lo" from Aar Paar. I remember wondering if this was a common
phenomena in Hindi filsm. I guess this thread answers that question. :-)

Hello,

Another SJ recycling I remember is the Rafi song from
'Bhai bhai' - 'Ik tera sundar mukhda'. The tune for the
mukhada was played on sitar in the background music of
'Amrapali'.

Then a background music piece from Sachinda's 'Aaj ko
junli raat maa' ( 'Talash', Lata -Rafi)was used to create
an Asha -Kishore bhajan in 'Rampur ka Laxman' by RD -
'Kaahe apno ke kaam nahi aaye tu'.

IIRC then in 'Jaani tum to dole' ('Dr.Vidya', Lata) we
can hear some strains similar to 'O panchhi pyare' in the
background.

I have heard an orchestral piece similar to the entire "na bole tum"
song twice on the local classical music radio station! Now this
station does sometimes play some new age classical or something like
that. The only difference between the two tunes is that RR's song
contains some "aa~"s by extras and is a bit slower in tempo.

This reminds me - there was a song sung by Mukesh in AAH, and the interlude
was
re-used in Jeena Yahan Marna Yahan in MERA NAAM JOKER.

The lyrics escape me.

Well RD had a Bond with western music.

One more:
In "Jewel thief", the background music played during Dev Anand - Helen scene
at Helen's apartment, was recycled by RDB in "Carvan" for the song "Piya tu
ab to aaja".

music of chariots of fire was converted to "Main teri hoon saathi .." in
Khoon Bhari Maang by Rajesh Roshan. On a side note movie was also lifted
by brother Rakesh Roshan from Sidney Sheldon novel/movie.

Scandinavian Hindi Music

After bhangrarap, Indipop and Hindrock, this time around it's Bollypop.

Not that it's any different from remixes. Kya Soorat Hai, the latest
Sony release comes from Bombay Vikings. They're a band of Scandinavian
musicians and a Jullandhar-born vocalist, Neeraj Shridhar. Although he
had performed numerous concerts in Norway and Sweden, he found that the
music wasn't fulfilling. ``I found myself constantly humming my
favourite Hindi tunes - the words became a blur, what with so many
years of not speaking the language in Sweden. I used to think then that
there must be many like me all over the world who don't speak Hindi,
yet are passionate about Hindi film songs. Could I bridge this gap
somehow?'' he asked himself.

He soon found his answer - the album Kya Soorat Hai.

Hi,

Another SJ background tune played on Sitar in 'Amrapali'
made its appearance later as a song in 'Bhai bhai'.
It was the Rafi song -
'Ik tera sundar mukhda, ik tera pyar se bhara dil'.

Then for his Asha - Kishore bhajan 'Kahe apnon ke kaam
nahi aaye tu' in 'Rampur ka Laxman' RD used a tune used

in the background music of

'Aaj ko junli raat ma' ('Talash',Lata-Rafi, SD).

IIRC then in the background music of 'Jaani tum to dole'
( 'Dr.Vidya',Lata, SD), we can hear strains of 'O panchhi
pyare'( "Bandini', Asha , SD).
