Tamil film songs: 2969
Tamil devotional (Hindu): 1510
Tamil devotional (Xian): 113
Tamil devotional (Muslim): 1
Tamil private album: 24
Telugu film songs: 4823
Telugu devotional: 24 (I am so sure there are many more non-film
Telugu songs by her)
Kannada film songs: 513
Kannada private albums: 16 (there are two albums shown, I am assuming
8 songs per album)
Kannada devotionals: 54
Malayalam film songs: 808
Malayalam devotionals: 42
Malayalam private albums: 13
Hindi songs: 58
Sanskrit: 24
The total is 10,992 and this is when the lists aren't complete
(especially the part on Telugu devotionals). Furthermore, many of the
artists from the south also have a decent repertoire in Sinhalese and
Oriya, and those songs haven't quite been listed. That being the case,
I am now really wondering - does she equal or surpass Asha's record of
12,000 songs?
Possible, but difficult to say either way.
Unfortunately Asha's non-HIndi and non-film numbers are not known with
definiteness.
does number of songs qualify her as a better singer ?.I doubt.
'better' singer is subjective, number of songs is not. I have not
heard enough of P. Susheela to comment. I am glad that you have.

I think you mean 15,000.
> I am a fan of hers and staying in bangalore.. Collecting her songs
> from other languages are very difficult for me . Within my limits I
> have collected this songs.
> The actual song count will be more than 30,000 songs.. The telugu
I am skeptical without a Telugu and Tamil Geet Kosh. Similar claims
were made (and are still made by some) fans of Lata and Rafi. Heck,
she even got into that infamous record book and Rafi wrote a letter
staking his claim.
> movie songs itself will cross 10,000 songs. The telugu devotionals
> will be another 3000 songs .. Tamil movie songs will be around 8000
> songs.. Devotionals another 3000 songs.. I have collected lots of
> albums and I dont have time to spare to update the huge database.
> The reason for this count ..
> 1. More number of movies made in south .. she was the prominent
That's a very broad statement, not true from the beginning. Let us
start with 1952 when PS started. in 1952, Telugu 25 and Hindi 102!
Telugu number rises slowly in the 60s-70s but remains below Hindi
until 1979 when it rises above. After that it goes up and down but
never more than 10% above.
> singer till 80’s and prominent singer in telugu till early 90’s. Till
> 80’s very less movies were released without her songs..
> 2. Each telugu movie will have an average of 8 songs in which five or
> six duets and one or two solos.
Did she sing all these average 8 songs always? If she sang about 4,
the estimate immediately drops by half :)
> 3. Lots of dubbing movies from all languages to telugu and tamil..
> Most of the telugu movies will be in dubbed to tamil and telugu will
> be dubbed in tamil. We always feel she didn’t sing many songs for
> ilayaraja.. That count itself cross 300 songs.
You say lots of movies, but the number of songs turns out to be 300!
> 4. Lots of unreleased movies and some will be stopped after song
> recording ..
How many is lots of unreleased? In Hindi, per decade, there are about
30-50 unreleased films for which records have been made. And did she
sing all the songs in all of these unreleased?
> 5. Lots of devotionals in tamil and telugu.. In tamil nadu each temple
> will have its own albums. I have around 200 albums which is around
> 2000 songs in tamil and sure it will be atleast of another 100
> albums.. It will be more telugu.
That is possible.
> 6. Private albums for political parties, social organizations.

In short, until I see an actual Geet Kosh, I find the numbers
difficult to believe.
If the number indeed exceeds 30000, then she was recording on an
average 2 songs per day right from 1952 to 2007, leaving her no time
1) to travel between Hyderabad, Madras, Bangalore and Trivandrum
2) to travel to Delhi to receive the numerous national awards.
3) for just plain day to day living, rest and holidays.
Just my take

Sukesh

Wot! No rehearsals, no retakes?
> SPB is claiming 36,000 songs in the span of 40 years which is
> happened because of the number of songs he has recorded in his peak..
> I am sure.. Soon we will prove this 30,000 count it with

Four recordings are easily possible.. they used to work fifteen hours
per day .. Once SPB recordec 16 songs in a day.. that too in late
70's.
Already someone could have been recorded the trace ( fro late 70's)
and they used to complete the singing part in an hour..
SPB, P.Susheela, S.Janaki and vani jayram and chithra are highly
professionlas and they were doing it when they were at their peak..
I have already told... we will prove it right proofs..
Thanks for this song. It's a really good rendition. I liked it a lot.
Who is the music director and when was this recorded?
