Anwar wrote around two thousand songs in Bollywood and for private
albums. His songs have been imortalised in the voices of Mohammad
Rafi, Manna Dey, Pankaj Uddhas, Shankar Shambhu and Sabir brothers
among others.
Born here in 1928, the poet left for Mumbai in 1945 in search of
better future and spent about 40 years there. Some of the films for
which he wrote lyrics are 'Al Hilal', 'Mere Piya' and 'Pardsi Sajan'.

Rest in Peace.. but Two thousand songs???
Maybe the operative words here are "private albums".
Even so, the figure is way too high.
Ironically, I was listening to YouTube today ("Rare Songs
of Bulo C. Rani --- which included this 'Al-Hilal' number.
R.I.P.
Afzal
was there any other song apart from hamen to looT liyaa which became
popular.
but Veteran film journalist, Sh MD Soni (of Jaipur) just confirmed
that Hame.n to loot liya was penned by Shevan Rizvi and not Anwar
Farrukhabadi.. As per him Anwar Farrukhabadi is known for only two
films in his lifetime 1. Aalam Aara Ki Beti (1960) 2. Holiday in
Bombay (1963) there may be just another odd film here or there..
Also two thousands songs is but definitely s\stretched to a great
extent..
Pavan
