During the peak of his career Naushad rarely composed Private
Ghazals,here are 2 of his compositions(1948-49)
not covered in any albums of Mukesh/Naushad/Majrooh.
1.Sunau kya mai gham apna zuban tak la nahin sakta.
2.Kyon teri nazar dekho to idhar.
Both are marvellous compositions, can someone share if he has with him.

================

The correct title for 2nd song is: Kyon Pheri Nazar (not Teri)

It was released on 2-Tape set / Mukesh / Bhulnewale Yaad Na Aa / HMV
(however, it is not on CD / Same title)

This song was written by: Anjum Pillibhiti (and not by: Majrooh)

The 1st song: Sunaon Kya Main Gham Apna - is hard to find

It can be found in the CD: "Unforgettable Ghazals of Mukesh."
The year is given as 1952.

Is it the case that these two songs were recorded for a Mehboob film,
but not used in the film and later released as non-film songs?
'Anokhi Ada' perhaps, although all the extant songs there were by
Shakil Badayuni.

Mr. Ashok:

Your inference is correct. These two songs were indeed recorded
for Anokhi Ada (1948) and then deleted from film and released
as non-film songs. The film had 12 songs plus two instrumentals
(Title Music + Dance Music, which were released on one
78 rpm record)

The final confirmation of this fact can be made, if some one has the
record # of this 78rpm disc and see if they are closer to those
of Anokhi Ada's songs (listed in Hindi Film Geet Kosh)

As far as Majrooh writing one of the song, it may be from
Mehboob Khan's cotract with Majrooh for the film: ANDAZ, which
was released in the following year. Since film can be in production
for 1 to 2 years, one can assume that both of these films, ANOKHI ADA
and ANDAZ were in production during that time.

ANOKHI ADA (1948): The 78rpm records were released on serial numbers N 35414 to
N 35419 with the exception of one record, N 15912, which had the title music
and the dance music.

ANDAAZ (1949) songs were released on five 78rpm records bearing serial numbers
N 35766 to N 35771.

The two non-film songs of Mukesh under discussion were issued on two separate
78rpm records the details of which are:

N 88034 Mukesh ' Kyoon pheri nazar, dekho to idhar...' Lyrics:
Anjum Pilibhiti

The second side has Mohd Rafi's AAN (1952) number which starts
with a verse ' Sitamgar dil men tere aag ulfat ki lagaa doongaa, qassam teri
tujhe main pyaar karnaa bhi sikhaa doongaa' followed by the main song 'Teraa
husn maanaa badi cheez hai, meraa dil bhi aakhir koi cheez hai...' The lyrics
are by Shakeel Badayuni. For those who do not know the music for both was by
Naushad.

N 88035 Mukesh 'Sunaaun kyaa main gham apnaa...'
Its flip side has a Lata-Mohd Rafi non-film duet
' Sun lo dil kaa afsaanaa ho, duniyaan dil ki basaa ke naa bhool jaanaa
...'. For both tracks the lyrics are by Majrooh and music by Naushad,

Happy reading (and of course listening)

Could also be perhaps for "Andaaz", 1949.

Maybe our resident expert in Dadar/Mumbai, Mr. Jayaraman can shed some light.

Happy listenings.

I was indeed happy to read the information you supplied; thanks.
Listening will have to wait. Where can one get ahold of copies
of "sunaaoo.N kyaa" and "sun lo dil kaa afasaanaa"? If you can
send a copy of the latter to Dr Surjit Singh, you can claim $1!
It is a Rafi song that is not listed in the Rafi Geet Kosh.

Finally, I tracked down some information about them in the
Naushad Geet Kosh.

The song "kyo.n pheree nazar" was recorded for 'Anokhi Ada', but was
not used in the film.

The other two songs above were recorded for 'Andaz' and not used.

I'd kill to get copies of Naushad songs of that period. :)

The filmography of Naushad by Nerurkar agrees with you about the
wording, the lyricist and the singer. It also says that the song was
originally recorded for the film Anokhi Ada but was not used.

Again the Naushad book agrees with you and says that these songs were
recorded for Andaz but were not used.

Surjit Singh, a diehard movie fan(atic), period.

Happy listenings.

Surely you meant the above songs in question, rather than all the
Naushad songs from that period, right?

Anyway, get ready - not to kill, but at least to inflict some injury
:) - for I do have "Sunaaoo.n kyaa main Gum apna...". Besides, that
tape also has some other non-film songs of Mukesh.

Happy Listenings.
