Just what are the 5 great indulgences that Urdu/Persian poets oft indulged in?

Sharab == wine,
Shabab == woman,
Kabab == good food,
and
?? == ??
? == ??

what? you mean three indulgences weren't enough?!!! (:-D)


seriously are you sure that 5 is correct number? because
if it is possible that it may be 7 not 5, then may be they
are same as seven deadly sins of chritianity and islam
religions. pride avarice envy anger lechery gluttony sloth.

but problem is, in that case sharab and shabab might both come
under gluttony's heading.

may be asking on alt.language.urdu.poetry will be helpful.

They are looked on as indulgences, not as sins. ;-)
So anger, pride, avarice, envy do not come into the picture. ;-)
Still, you make an interesting point.
Sharab and Kebab would come under gluttony while
Shabab under lechery.

I don't have any knowledge of urdu, but is'nt a raba a string
instrument from the mountains of afghanistan? it fact it might be a
3-4 stringed instrument that is strummed like a sarod.

does it also mean good music?
