i think its difficult to rate patriotic songs just as you rate filmi
songs.
but the two other songs i have always liked are
1. hum apni azadi ko hargeez mita sakte nahin,
sar kata sakte hain par sar zuka sakte nahin

2. aye mere pyare watan aye mere bichade chaman

Two of my favourites are:

1. "I Love My India", from PARDES.
Makes me even prouder to be Indian (even though that might not be
possible).

2. "Sandese Aate Hain", from BORDER.
Brings a tear to my eye.

Just my opinion,

Neil.

LET ME FIRST SAY THAT 'AI MERE WATAN KE LOGO' IS NOT FROM ANY GIVEN FILM
AND I AM SURE ALL OF YOU KNOW THIS. THE FEW THAT I HAVE ALWAYS HEARD AND
LIKED AND ENJOYED ARE

1. AAO BACHON TUMHE DIKHAYEEN JHANKI HINDUSTAN KI
FROM JAGRUTI

2. YEH DESH HAIN VEER JAWAANON KA
FROM NAYA DAUR

3. THE LAST BUT NOT THE LEAST IS OF COURSE THE UPKAAR NUMBER AS
MENTIONED BY JAY. HATS OFF TO KALYANJI ANANDJI AND MAHENDRA KAPUR
AND MANOJ KUMAR AND THE WRITER. AN EVERGREEN NUMBER SUNG FROM THE
BOTTOM OF THE HEART.

The song which has always makes my adrenalin pump is

"Dil diya hain jaan bhi denge aye watan" from Karma, a song which I suggest
the Indian cricket team to listen before every match

My choice would be "Vande Mataram" from AnandMath(?), though the song was not
originally written for film.
Anyone knows/seen this movie?

I was really enjoying this movie when the person I was with
told me it was a copy of the 'The French Kiss'. What a body
blow ! To think that Bollywood would ever stoop to pinching
ideas from American movies ! It cant be true.
The first half is very good , the second drags a bit. Maybe
that is why it is a big hit - everything is explained in
great detail whereas in Dil Se a lot is left unsaid and so
that one didnt prove to be a big hit with Indian audiences.
Kajol is plump and looks really healthy - a refreshing
change from the skinny actresses like.. Lata has done a
great job. Amazing that at her age she can lend her voice to
a 20 year old .
The engagement song is sheer magic - again South Asian
culture can match any other when it comes to dress , lyrics,
songs , choreography . Something to be really proud about.
There are quite a few Urdu dialogs which make one think . A
few I remembered ' Jang meh jeetna ho to pehle hamla soch
kar karo ( If you want to win in war the first attack must
be well thought out ). . 'Jang may dushman ko bi vaar karne
ka haq hota hai ( In war even an enemy has the right to
launch an assault ) -said in the context of a love fight.
'Janam se kamine ho ?' etc.
One song takes place in an airplane going though a LOT of
turbulence , None of the passengers are strapped in and they
all slide from one end to another and the babies are flying
about but everybody is really cheerful. The best bit was
'Yamraj ( God of death) on a flying motorbike seen through
the window ! .
There is a lot of flesh exposed and only the hypocrites wont
admit that vulgarity is great fun , but once again the hero
smokes all the time -Benson's and this kind of product
placement should be BANNED and censored out , although in
the end the hero does throw it away saying its harmful for
health !
Luckily I dont watch Hollywood movies , otherwise this
person would have really spoilt my day when she told me that
they had taken scenes and ideas from 'Die hard' (in the
mall) , 'Jaws' (on the beach), 'Airport' and a lot more but
I had stopped listening to her..

Surprisingly for a Bollywood film there is a fair amount of
bad language in this movie but since it is used by a woman
it actually sounds quite sexy ! -certainly the kids would
go into squeals of laughter everytime it was used.
One of the reasons the engagement dance looked so good was
of course that it was the time when traditional South Asian
attire is worn. Lets be honest , women look awful in Western
dresses and there may be a good reason , as in Bhutan , to
ban Western clothes for a few years. It will give employment
to millions -skills of embrodery etc. and would bring beauty
back to the scene. Maybe a start could be made with schools
where the kids wouldbe required to wear only traditional
dresses to school.
An article in Asian age-Oct 7- lamented the influence of
'Arya Samaji frumps' in North India so that classical
musical training is no longer given there to the children ,
while in the South where the children still get it , the
temple songs sound so much more melodius.
One criticism is also the unecessary use of English -for
example 'aiport pe wait karoongi' , instead of 'hawai adde
pe intezaar karoongi' . Young women losing the ability to
speak their language will mean its death knell as they will
no longer speak it with their children. They dont have to
know Hindi , but should be at least fluent in their own
mother tongue.
The govt should make policies to see that South Asian
languages regain their position..

No need for all the boo-hoo, I feel.
If "Pyar to hona hi tha" is a copy of "French Kiss", what is "French Kiss"
a copy of? Remember a movie called Brahmachari, with Shammi Kapoor and
Rajashree? Well, Rajashree has been abandoned by her boy-friend/fiance Pran
and Shammi takes it upon himself to "tutor" her to win her man back. In doing
so, she falls in love with him and vice versa. Only, Pran is also now in love
with her since she has undergone an 'ugly-duckling' like transformation.

The only difference is that in French Kiss (and presumably PTHHT) is that the
hero, Kevin Kline, is a small-time thief whereas in Brahmachari, Shammi has a
pot of gold where his heart should have been.

Well, there is a difference between two movies having similar story lines and
a movie being copied from another one. There are some instances where
Hollywood movies have storylines similar to the ones of Bollywood movies but
most bollywood movies are direct copy of hollywood movies (scene-to-scene)
with some indianization. Pyar to hona hi tha is no different. Most scenes are
exactly similar to French Kiss.

Some other popular films that are Hollywood rip offs

Khoon Bhari Mang - Return to Eden
Baazigar - A kiss before Dying
Tezaab - Streets of fire
Yes Boss - For Love or money
Darr - Cape Fear
Dil Hai Ke Manta Nahi - It happened one night
Hatya - Witness
Main Khiladi Tu Anadi - Hardway
Agnisakshi - Sleeping with the enemy
Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikander - Breaking away

This list goes on....

This one takes the cake. It is a scene2scene copy of Chori Chori (sic)
which was inspired version of the hollywood flick.

> Hatya - Witness
Jurm - Witness
Sadak - A hash of Witness, Lethal Weapon and many hollywood flicks.

> Agnisakshi - Sleeping with the enemy

There are multiple movies which are copies of the same movie.
Yaarana and one Juhi chawla movie are also copies of this movie.

> Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikander - Breaking away

Nayagan - The Godfather
I guess the Godfather (Base class) is the most reused theme in Hindi
movies.

Chickni Chachi - Mrs Doubtfire
And the list goes on....

Beautifully choreographed by Ahmad Khan and Saroj Khan and
others . One of the best of the best in terms of movement ,
lyrics , music and costumes.
With a DVD you can slow it down to one sixteenth normal and
you will be amazed how all the Nepali male and female
dancers keep in perfect step. Since they are not resident
Bollywood dancers they must have trained them really hard.
Anybody who is serious about South Asian music must get DVD.
It will soon have 75mins of LOSSLESS music on each ! The
crystal clear recording by www.superdvd.com from original
print are a constant delight. All the songs of Gharwali
Baharwali - Rab Jane , Bol tara re , Nepal ki thandi and the
Ghoongat me with all the real life gorees are superb .
With chapter search one can go back to the same song
instantly and with the 'masti' songs one can imagine the
tabla wallas beating out fast tunes and egging each other
on.
Pardes has now come out on DVD. Its by Eros and I hope they
havent spoilt the picture to 'prevent copying' . Anybody
know if the Bhangra songs and the old classics of the 50s
and 60s are out on DVD ?..

What about Vande Mataram? That was a touching, pop hit from Rahman I really
liked. Everything else was ok, but this was a great song. Any comments?

True. Not clear at all(lyrics from the song). Besides Rehman is highly
over-rated. Not Ilaya Raja though! He is too good!
