I am trying to compile a list of Hindi songs which are generally
inspiring and have what I consider wisdom. When pressed to define
wisdom, I am sure I will not be able to do so. But I am sure
that we do recognize wisdom when we come across it.

To start off, let me state a few examples of what I mean by these
types of songs:

1. Allah tero naam, Ishwar tero naam
Sabko sanmati dey bhagawan
...
O sarey jag ke rakhwaaley
Nirbal ko bal deyne waaley
Balwaan ko tu dey dey gyan...

2. Tora man darpan kahlaayey
Bhale burey saarey karmo ko
Deykhe aur deekhaye
...
Man hi devta, man hi ishwar
Man say bada na koi
Man ujiaara jub jub phailay
Jug ujiaara hoi
Is ujley darpan pur pranee
Dhool na jamne paaye...

3. In the song, 'Mera Naam Raju', there is a wonderful
verse which goes:

Kaviraj kahe,
Na yeh taj rahe, na yeh raj rahe
Na yeh raj-gharana
Preet and preet-key geet rahe
Kabhi loot saka na koi ye khajana...

There are many more that I know of. What in your opinion are
songs that inspire you?

I especially like Guru Nanak's bhajans and Kabir's bhajans.
For example, in one of my favorite Kabir bhajan "Man Laago Yaar
Fakiri Mein" he says:
Kahta Kabira suno bhai sadho
Sahib miley saboori mein...

Or from Guru Nanak:
Nanak bhav jal paar parey jo
Gaavey prabhu kay geet...

"and?" Not "aur?" :-)

Most of the bhajans would fit in the category that you outline.
However, there is one that might not strike any but the most
insightful. Here it is (p-stats thanks to Preetham and Parrikar):

Song : BaDe miya deewane, aise na bano, haseena kya chaahe hamse suno
Singer : Mohammad Rafi, Manna De
Film : Shagird

A must for every young romantic "chhada." Full of great
advice in the inimitable voice of Rafi, and if you
remember the movie, the advice does work too - finally :-)

There are lots of KK songs that fit this category too -
jeevan ke safar mein raahi, aane waala pal jaane waala
hai etc. etc. I will remember others as soon as I post this
article. KKKlanners, help!!

Some more songs that definitely belong here :

23."Sansar se bhagey phirte ho bhagwan ko tum kya paogey..." - Lata, Sahir, Roshan
Every line in this song is practically dripping with wisdom, for example :
-..Yeh paap hai kya, yeh punya hai kya, reetoN par dharm ki muhren hai
har yug mein badalte dharmon ko kaise adarsh banaogey....

and
-..Hum kehtey hain yeh jag apna hai, tum kehte ho jhoota spana hai,
hum janam bita ke jaengey, tum janam gawaN kar jaogey...

24. Chin, Arab hamara, Hindostan hamara, rehne ko ghar nahi hai
Sara jahan hamara....(don't know any P-stats)

25. Is mod se jaatey hain, kuchch tez kadam raste, kuchch sust kadam raahen
Pathar ki haveli se, seeshey ke gharondo tak, tinkon ke nasheman tak (?)
is mod se jaatey hain...(Some say that Gulzar has embedded a really deep
philosophy in these few lines :))

26. Zindagi ka safar, hai yeh kaisa safar, koi samjha nahi, koi jana nahi
....and later...aisi kaliyan bhi hain jo khili hi nahi, jinko khilne se
pehle fiza kha gayee, aise jiwan bhi jo jiye hi nahi......

27. Diye jalte hain, phool khiltey hain - by KK is another gem ....consider
...daulat aur jawani, ek din kho jaati hai, sacch kehta hoon saari
duniya dushman ho jaati hai....

and
....is rang rup pe dekho, hargiz naaz na karna, jaan bhi maangey yaar to de
dena naraaz na karna...

and of course....our sweetest songs are those that tell of saddest thought...

28. Hain sabse madhur woh geet jinhe ham dard ke sur mein gaatey hain,
jab had se guzar jaati hai khushi, aasoon hi chalaktey aate hain...

No dearth of "wise" songs in Hindi I guess :)
Samir.

I can think of some :

1) Sajan re zooth mat bolo
2) Jindagi har kadam ik naya jang hein
3) Jindagee ka safar

I would say that most of the songs begining with Jindagi / Duniya will fit
in the Wisdom classification.

Just remembered a couple more

1. Zindagi ke safar mein guzar jaate hain jo mukaam - Kishore Kumar
2. Apne liye jiye to kyaa jiye - Badal - Manna Dey

Add to these, the innumerable patriotic songs, the songs hinging around a
mother's love for her children, brother sister songs etc. etc., and the list
just grows. As an afterthought, whoever said, after adding to the list, that
this itself is an overdose, was probably kidding. How can one even think of
overdose, when the initial dosage itself is just a tiny speck ?
