But I was surprised to find it in black-n-white. A very young and
beautiful Mumtaz and an equally young and energetic Jeetendra sing the
song while another youthful pair of Biswajeet and Mala Sinha look on.
From their looks the song seems to have been shot sometime around
1965-66 when both Jeetu and Mumtaz were rather newcomers. However,
film was certified and/or released in 1972.
Does anyone know more about this film and song? Was the film in the
making for years, or shelved then and then completed in a hurry and
released in 1972? Or just this song and a few other scenes are in B/W
and the rest of the film is in color? From the look of it, the song
also suggests that Chahat was probably the first film where Jeetu and
Mumtaz were paired much earlier than Boond Jo Ban Gayi Moti (1968).
MD Laxmi-Pyare, can't be that old.

B) Apparently a B/W film, must have had a delayed release, so probably sank without a trace.

Well, Laxmi-Pyare composed music in several B/W films in the mid-'60s,
and Chahat could be one of them. I just checked HFGK and it lists
Chahat as certified on 24 Sep 1971. Now look at the star cast
mentioned by HFGK (besides the two lead pair): Achala Sachdev, Asit
Sen, Mridula, Sundar, Roopesh Kumar, M.A. Lateef, Jalani, Altaf,
Shahid, Master Javed, Baby Yasmin, Madhumati, and Rajshree T.
Except Sachdev, Sen, Sundar, and Roopesh Kumar, all others were hardly
seen beyond 1967-68 although I only remember the face of Madhumati. B/
W films with big stars were over around 1967 with Baharon Ke Sapne
(Asha Parekh), Raat Aur Din (Nargis, Pradeep Kumar), and Milan Ki Raat
(Sharmila Tagore). If a producer could afford to sign such big stars
as Mala Sinha and Biswajeet in 1965-67, then he would not have made a
B/W film with them. Mala Sinha and Biswajeet did one more B/W film
with LP as music directors - Aasra (1966). Jeetendra became a star
with Farz (1967) and would have played a second fiddle to Biswajeet
only in films released before or around 1967.
These facts make me believe that Chahat was started in 1965-66.
By the way, the other two Chahat songs, links to which Sukesh Sahab
posted on another post, are nice. I recall having listened to them a
lot in those radio-listening days. The song 'hamen tumse tumhen
hamse' is a straight lift from another old favorite, and much
superior, 'mujhe tum mil gaye hamdam' (Love In Tokyo, 1966).
I agree, probably did start earlier.
