Are the lyrics of the female version different and if so, can somebody
post them? Also, who is the singer in the female version and who are

I think the song appears twice in the movie (Dum Maro Dum), and there
are different lyrics, except for the refrain, which is the same both
times. This may explain the 'male' and 'female' versions. The people
singing the song are male-female siblings, so part of the refrain,
(Ek Hazaaron mein meri behnaa hai) cannot be sung by the female.
In the story line, the sibling pair is separated early in life and
are then re-united as young adults.( I hope I am not repeating something
everyone already knows ! )
To start another thread, do people have other examples of songs which
appear twice or more times in a movie, but perhaps with different
set of lyrics or characters in the movie etc ?

but both times it is sung by the same character (Dev Anand). It is just that
the first time around, he is a little kid playing with his sister and sings this
song to her and in true Hindi film style, they got Lata to sing for the little
MALE kid. That is why Lata's version also has the "meri behna hai" part.
This is one of those situations where Lata does a poor job of singing for a little
kid. I still think that it is a really nice tune and sung well, but totally
inappropriate for the character that it is picturized on. Another example of
inappropriate voice for a child was Asha Bhonsle singing "O saathi re" in
"Muquaddar ka Sikandar" for the young Rakhee character. When I first heard the
song on the radio, I really liked it but thought it was being sung by a grownup.
The picturized really spoilt it for me. And the sad part is that Asha was capable
of doing an incredible job of singing for kids and teenagers. My favorite
example is her rendition of "Tu rootha to mai ro doongi sanam" in the film
"Jawaani". Asha does an immature teenager without overdoing it to perfection.

Hindi films are full of 2 part songs, one being a duet and the other a solo or
a male solo and a female solo version. I can only think of one song which has
2 male versions, "Tum bin jaaon kahan" from "Pyaar ka Mausam" has a version by
Rafi and one by Kishore.
Examples of 2 part songs are
1] "Pyaar par bas to nahi hai mera lekin" from "Sone ki Chidiya"
There is a version by Asha and one is a duet by Talat and Asha
2] "Zindagi ek safar hai suhaana" from "Andaz"
Version by Kishore and one by Asha
3] "Mujhe gale se lagaalo" from "Aaj aur Kal"
Duet by Rafi-Asha and solo by Asha
4] "Jaayen to jaayen kahaan" from "Taxi Driver"
Solo by Talat and by Lata
5] "Dil jo na keh sakaa" from "Bheegi Raat"
Solo by Rafi and by Lata
6] "Subah ka intezaar kaun kare" from "Joru ka Bhai" (love this song)
Solor by Talat and by Lata
7] "Mujhko is raat ki tanhaai me aawaz na do" from "Dil bhi tera, Hum bhi tere"

That was a tricky one. Lata is singing for a very young Dev
Anand played by Master Satyajit. This is an old practice of female
singers playbacking for minors.

There must be countless such examples. Here's one:

Singers: I dont know who playbacks for kids - Kajal kiron and
Tariq, Rafi for an older Tariq.

Now that I've been flamed twice, in what I actually thought was a flame-free
group, let me apologize for the ambiguous wording. Note that I put
'female' in quotes the first time, and not the second time. I thought
this would make things clear enough, when seen in the context of other
information in that posting But alas, I was wrong, and will be more
careful in the future !

********There is one example of the same song ( with same `mukhda' but
different `antaras' sung by 3 different male singers which comes to my mind
right now .... It is from film "Aap to aise naa the" ;lyrics by Nida Faazli;
music by Usha Khanna and singers -Mohammad Rafi ( happy version ), Anwar and
Manhar ( the best of the three ) (both sad versions) and the song is ...
you guessed it...
Tu is tarah se meri zindagi main shaamil hai.....
Do any of you guys remember any seconds to this example.. I have a feeling
that this is unique (though not sure).....
