Although Rafi's rendition of this nazm is one of the high points of
his repertoire, this Manna De version is a very good rendition in its
own right. (I am sure it would have sounded even better had not the
Rafi version been lodged so firmly in my head!)
Warm regards,
Abhay
Possibly a version recording. To cite another example - there is one
such recording of 'chal uDD jaa re panchhi' from "Bhabhi" (1957) by
Talat Mehmood. I believe, there were many such recordings in the 50s
of the popular songs. I have not been able to fathom the reason behind
such recordings. Perhaps, Afzal Saheb and other senior members would
be able to throw more light on this practice prevalent then.

Geet Kosh does not list any version records for Pyasa.

The Talat version of the 'Bhabhi' song has been known for quite some
time and there is also some background to why it was recorded. I have
never come across any reference to the version recording of the
'Pyaasa' song. Hence the question.

Version recording released on 78 rpm record. It is full version
and not half song. It is on both the sides.
Second that request.
Sanjeev
The original recording (might have been only on Sound Negative (that
is
corresponding recording for 78 rpm records on wax master, might not
have been made) was destroyed.
Few years later, when Talat started re-recording his earlier songs
(the
available 78 rpm records for some of them were of low sound quality
and
were not good enough for inclusion on LP records or the available
records
were highly worn out), he re-recorded this song of BHABHI. If this
story
is true, then BHABHI song is not a VERSION record, but a
Re-Recorded Semi-Version
Khalid (Talat's son) assertion that this was the only Version song
recorded
by a major artist is not true. Both Shamshad and Suraiya made
version
songs in mid to late 40s. Now, discovery of Manna Dey's version
of ' Jinhe
Naaz Hai Hind Par' is another proof in this regard
I have a recording of Hemant Kumar and Geeta Roy's ('Version song'
or may
be 'Replaced Singers' category) from BABUL - Milte Hi Aankhen Dil
Huwa.
The source record was highly worn-out
Comments and feed-back from members appreciated.

I have only half the song. If 'maheshks' has the full song, request
him to make it available to all of us. Else, I will upload the part
that I have in a few days.
Warm regards,
Abhay
Besides the songs you mention there are others (I am not sure if they
are version or just not included in the film). Some of the ones I have
heard are:
Teri duniya mein jeene se - Asha (a brief version) and a Hemant/Asha
version
Mohabbat choome jinke haath - Hemant version and a Rafi/Shamshad
version
Marna teri gali mein - Rafi (a brief version)
Bachpan ke din bhula na dena - Rafi/Shamshad
Maine dekhi jag ki riit - Mukesh/Shamshad
Kahin deep jale kahin dil - Hemant (I think this was in the film)
Chaman mein rahke veerana - Rafi/Shamshad
Hue hum jinke liye barbaad - Rafi/Lata (a brief version)
BTW, I do like Manna Dey's version of the song from Pyaasa.
Cheers
