Here are some interesting snippets from Vish's article posted in 1995.

>(again, according to Mr. Ranga Rao) our beloved Burman Dada also
>essentially transplanted the same tune into "Dekhne Mein Bhola Hai, Dil
>Ka Salona" - an Asha favourite from BAMBAI KA BABU !!

Dada certainly transplanted the tune and I will play the Telugu song at
the next meet if anybody is interested. The word Chinanna in the Asha
solo is also taken from the Telugu song. "Chinanna" in this context
would be chote babu. Here are the lyrics.

Movie:Bambai Ka Baabu
Lyrics:Majrooh
Music:Sachin Dev Burman
Star:Dev Anand, Suchitra Sen

Dekhne mein bhola hai dil ka salona
bambai se aaya hai baabu chinanna

Gali gali gaon ki re jaagi hai soote soote
phir se laage hai aisa khule aam chote chote
sang leke aaya hai mera bachpanna
bambai se..

Niki muni noor begum use na banaana ji
hasinon ka sehzada hai hasina udana ji
dil uda le jayega chodo bachpanna
bambai se..

suno magar sehzade ji kahin bhool mat jaana
buri hai ye nainon waale banaate hain deewana
gaon hai ye pariyon ka dil ko bachana
bambai se..

BTW another popular song with Telugu words is "Ramayyaa Vastaavayya
Maine Dil tujko diya" from Shri 420."Ramayyaa Vastaavayya"is
"Asking Ramayyaa if he is going to come".This might have been
suggested by Shankar of S-J, as he is from Hyderabad.

Srinivas.

I thought I posted a followup to Vish's above posting that time. Anyhow,
the result was: HMV was not successful! The court said that theres
no such Copyright provision. I understand that there are other, later
lawsuits/judgements on this same subject (which allow "copying" without
permission to "certain" extent; i.e. *pallavi* part). Let me dig out Ravi
KonDala Rao's (a very talented and informed veteran film journalist, actor
and script writer) informative article on "Tunes & Copyrights" in
"Andhraprabha" Weekly a while ago.

Sreenivas

Sreenivas P.: if the article does justice to the title, I'd
appreciate a summary. (Even a translation! I am sure many
English vehicles would be happy to carry a translation.)
I haven't seen any coverage of the topic.

Even given the non-iTrans of your post, "soote soote" is wildly
misleading. The words are "sote sote."

"hue ham chhoTe chhoTe."

"ha.Nsii naa uDaanaa jii." Though I'll admit "hasiinaa uDaanaa jii" has
wonderful imaginative possibilities. I'm still processing the visual....
