Hi -

For some reason (too much snow, too cold, too long 'till Spring arrives, too
long before the next Hindi movie is shown in the local theatre - who knows
why), but anyway, I'be been humming the Indian national anthem. And you
know what, I realized that I DON'T KNOW ALL THE WORDS!

Can someone please provide the full wording? Also, what is the history of
the anthem? Who wrote it?

Thanks much,

Aniruddh

Jana Gana Mana Adhinayak Jaya he
Bharat Bhagya Vidhata

Punjab Sindh Gujarat Maratha

Vindhya Himachal Yamuna Ganga

[Note: a common mistake is the confusion between
the 'Utkala' and the 'Ucchala' in this
para]

Tava Shubha Naame Jaage
Tava Shubha Aashish Maage
Gahe Tava Jaya Gatha

Jana Gana Mangal Dayak jaya he
Bharat Bhagya Vidhata

Jaya Jaya Jaya Jaya haae ...

It is really disgraceful.

The Anthem has been posted. The National Anthem is from one of the works
of Rabindranath Tagore.

Tagore is also the only person to my knowledge who has TWO of his works
that have been made national anthems-- "Jana Gana Mana" in India
and "Aamar Sonaar Bangla" in Bangladesh.

What a great guy!

What exactly do you find disgraceful? The national anthem, my asking or the
fact that someone posted the words already?

If you find disgraceful the fact that I asked, why would you jump to
discredit me so easily if you know NOTHING about me or why I asked?

I personally am NOT interested in your reply. But others may need you to
clarify that you were not insulting the national anthem of India.

I was expressing that one should know the national anthem of one's nation.
As far as I know you are the best person on this EARTH - Does that satisfy
you ? Please feel credited !?!

The Indian National Anthem was written in Bengali by Rabindranath
Tagore. It was Hindiised and adopted as the national anthem by the
Congress party in 1930(I think). The song has about 5-6 verses-- only
the first verse is the anthem.
Jana Gana Mana Adhinayaka Jaya He
Bharata Bhagya Vidhata
Punjab Sindhu Gujarat Maratha DraviR Utkal Vanga
Vindhya Himachala Yamuna Ganga Uchhala Jaladhi Taranga
Taba Shubha Naame Jage, Taba Shubha Aashish Mage
Gahe Taba Jayagatha
Jana Gana Mangala Dayaka Jaya He Bharata Bhagya Vindhata
Jaya He, Jaya He, Jaya He, Jaya Jaya Jaya Jaya He.
If you need the translation, email.

Who is the "one" you had in mind? Do you always assume that India is the
nation "of" everyone using this group, or for that matter everyone you meet?
A bit presumptuous, isn't it?
