I just saw Prem Granth and overall it is great if not the best.
Madhuri gives award winning performance and Om Puri excels.
Beautiful scenery and some nice choreography and a different story.
Direction is good.It is worth seeing in a cinema hall atleast once.
Madhuri looks absolutely pretty but Rishi Kapoor looks fat but as the
movie is heroine oriented he can pass.Jangal Main song is choreographed
well and so also Main Kamjor Aurat is quite effective in the movie per
the given situation.

I had read someplace in this newgroup that this film is based on 'Tess'
by Thomas Hardy.... there was an earlier film starring Nutan called
Dulhan ek raat ki which was also supposed on the same story line. Can
anybody confirm this....

I read an abridged telugu Version of Tess by Malati Chandur looooong back.
Btw, is it 'Tess' or 'Tessa'?

In Tess, I think the father of a church rapes a girl and then
the girl has a child.. Then the girl undergoes too much of trouble.
it goes on like that.
What happens in the end? Does the father confess in the end publicly?
who dies father or the girl?...?
Can't remember.

Can you please briefly give me the ending in Tess?
Thanx.

The name of the movie is "Tess" based on the book Tess of the
D'urbervilles by Thomas Hardy. In it Tess is not really raped (she does
consent to it) by the son of the woman she works for. She does have a
child that dies and Tess does go through trouble to have it baptised. And
later you do see Tess at a dairy farm falling in love with a man.

I read Tess long back and my memory fails me. But from what I can remember
young Tess is raped by a wealthy young man after a village fair. She has a
child and continues with her life with lots of troubles until a priest(?)
decides to marry her. I think the old lover comes back and she kills him
in the church.

PS: Have I been watching too many movies lately?

A priest doesn't marry her -- a minister's son who works at the dairy
does. Then he finds she had (gasp) sex with Alec and runs away. Then Tess
has a miserable life for awhile and hooks up with Alec again for lack of
anything else to do. The her husband shows up all guilty-like and she feels
so crappy that she murders Alec and he i arrested and hung (hanged?) while the
now free husband walks off with Tess' sister.

Hi,

The name of the novel is 'Tess of the D'Urbervilles'
The girl Tess is raped by a rich landlord, while she is not in her full
consciousness. The story takes turns and by the end she kills him and is
arrested, and hanged. I have read the novel, and is a classic.
I have as of yet not seen the movie Prem Granth, but it seems that
the movie to some good extent is based on the novel...

"Do correct me where i go wrong"

Nice novel.

I'm sorry but I fail to see the similarities between the film and the
novel and I'm sure once you see the film, you'll know that there isn't
much similarities. If you want to have a clearer idea of what the film
is all about visit, Madhuri Dixit's Unofficial Home Pagee, the address is
in sig file.

I think you will agree that this is one of those films that is very well
done, but is not appriciated by many viewers who don't want to look at
the problems in the society and want to forget their own problems.
People expect every movie to take them in a wonderland like HAHK or DDLJ.

Just wanted to get my $0.02 in!
