I want to compile the ultimate collection of popular songs by the Hindi
film industry's great playback singers. I have been disappointed
with many of the compilation CDs and film soundtracks that I have
purchased over the years as they generally only contain the odd great
song and the remainder are not so good.

Starting with Kishore Kumar, my favourite singer, I want to record MP3s
of all his songs that have won awards (Filmfare, National etc) or been
nominated for awards. The collection would also include other songs of
distinction such Binaca Geetmala winners and songs that may not have
won awards but are considered to be classics. Obviously deciding which
song is a classic is subjective and that's especially where I would
like some suggestions to ensure no immortal songs are missed. Grateful
for your suggestions, song names and maybe a few words or so about why
you think it should be considered a classic.

A cd will be too big for that. why don't you use a floppy.

Not fair Rawat-saab! I'm sure there will be a sizeable number of
songs!

Personally, the award-winning numbers of Kishore Kumar (and for any
other legend for that matter) are not perhaps the best numbers to
listen to. Even in the 70's & 80's, when Kishore Kumar was the biggest
box-office draw among playback singers, songs like 'kiska rasta
dekhe', 'jeevan se bhari teri aankhen', 'rasta dekhe tera'
(humshakal), 'na jaane din kaise jeena mein aaye hain' (chala murari
hero ban-ne), 'simti si sharmaayi si' (parwana), 'raah pe rehte hain'
(namkeen), 'jo tum hansoge to' (kathputli), 'nainon mein darpan'
(aarop - with Lata-bai), 'humraahi manzil ke' (anokha daan) and many
many more are just beautiful.

Regards-Archisman.

Saw this movie recently. This was the only song that was decent enough.
IIRC, the music was by RDB.

Is this the first movie of Asrani as a lead or was"Hum Nahi Sudhrenge"
before this?

thx

Sorry Shri

I cant !!

I am not knowledgeable enough to evaluate his songs....

for me each of his song that I have "listened", is awesome and cannot
be ignored...and each of his song that I have "watched" on video, is a
"classic"...the reason being he is the best ever "playback" film singer
that I know..

For me all the 25-CD compilation of his songs are out of the world :P

Hum naheen sudhrenge came later. Chala Murari was 1st.

And as Mr Mazumdar has pointed out, most of Kishore's very popular
songs were not even considered for awards. Just adding some moreto the
list, 'Main shayar badnaam', 'Guzar jayen din din din', 'O Hansini',
'Socha tha maine meri jaan meri', 'Jaaneman jaane man', 'Ruk jana
nahin', 'Yeh jeevan hai', 'Woh shamm koi ajeeb thi', 'Pal pal dil ke
paas', 'Deewana leke aaya hai', 'O mere dil ke chain', 'Yadon mein
woh'..many many more.. all nos raging hits and acclaimed hits ..

early 1960s?

I also look forward to seeing the rest of your list post-1974.

For KK hits in Binaca Geetmala annual programs, check out this website
which features complete lists for most years:

http://www28.brinkster.com/giitaayan/ow.asp?BinacaGeetmala

The owner of giitaayan website (Vinay Jain) and I created those Binaca
Geetmala pages and, along with a couple of others, contributed those
lists. If you ever happen to find complete lists for other years,
notably 1963, 1965-66, 1974-80, and 1986-93, kindly contribute them.
For complete list of memorable and good KK solo songs, please send me
email at m_asifalvi at yahoo dot com and I will email it. Thanks.
