It is really hard to say what the top ten songs are. I have managed to
come up with the following list. I am sure I am missing some. Feel free
to add your top ten.

10. Yeh nayan dare dare (Hemant Kumar)
9. Choopalo yun dil me pyaar mera (Hemant, Lata)
8. Yeh raat bhigee bhigee (Manna Dey, Lata)
7. Chalte Chalte (Kishore Kumar)
6. Suhani raat dhal chooki (Rafi)
5. Hain sub se madhoor woh geet (Talat)
4. Chandan sa badan (Mukesh)
3. Aaj phir jiine ki tamanna hai (Lata)
2. Yeh raat phir na aaye gi (Lata)
1. Yeh raat yeh chandni phir kahan (Hemant Kumar)

The above songs are the best songs I have ever heard.

I'm not a musician who really knows music from the sitar to the tabla, but
from a from a fan's opinion here are my favorites.(not in any particular
order)
-do stiro ka milan hay aj kee raat(noushad)
-maduban mena dikha nache re(noashad)
-choudvani ka chand ho
-bhoje mera kya noun re(o.p. nayyar)
-ajj phir jene ki tamana hai(s.d.burman)
-likha hai tere akhaon me kiska afsana(s.d.)

i'm tone deaf when it comes to identifying a raga ... but here are
some of my absolute favourites...

-chandan sa badan, chanchal chitvan ...
-waqt ne kiya kya haseen sitam, hum rahe na hum .. tum rahe na tum
-kahin door jab din dhal jaaye.. saanjh ke dulhaan...
-zindagi kaisi hai paheli....
-chingari koi bhadke ... to saawan use bujhaye..
-nayen heen ko rah dikha prabhu ...
-naina barse rhim jhim ..
-aa chal ke tujhe main le ke chaloon ek aise gagan ke talen..
-woh shaam kucch ajeeb thi.... yeh shaam bhi ajeeb hain
-tere bina zindagi ki se koi shikwah to nahin ...

these are the songs that i thought were perfect in terms of their lyrics
the music ... hindi film music at it's best ...
