*abruu* kii kaTaarii ko *do aab* aur ziyaadaa

abruu = eyebrow (you can see her raising her eyebrow just before he
sings this line!)
aab = sharpness

Thus, "sharpen the dagger of your eyebrow some more" (sounds silly in
English, doesn't it?).

Question for the Urdu experts: why is it "do aab" here? "de aab" would
be correct if it was the verb "denaa" being used (since he refers to
her as "tuu" throughout the song). The compound "do_aab" refers,
according to Platts, to the land mass between the confluence of two
rivers; it seems unlikely that the compounded word is being used
here.

Warm regards,
Abhay

Let me thank you for taking pains to go through
my post and giving clarification.

I looked for the meaning of probable word 'doa ' from
http://www.geocities.com/urdudict/d/do.htm
and narrowed down on, wish, so guessed it to be
doa\-aab = wish sharpness.

Can it be " to dagger of eyebrows, wish sharpness, some more "
does it make any sense :)

Compounding the word may not be correct,
' doa aab ' itself may be proper, can't say.

As you have rightly said, Urdu experts have to
help us out.

Abhay Jii,

Without claiming to be an Urdu expert....:)

I think you are on the right lines. aab (-o-taab) denaa is equivalent
to tempering a blade of steel; sword, dagger, (abruu kii) kaTaarii
etc. More to the point, here it implies lustre and sharpness. (aab of
course means water).

I agree it should be "aab de" as opposed to "aab do", but although I
can n't give you any examples straight away, it is not unknown for
filmy poets to switch pronouns. Having said all this, I could be
wrong.

Thanks for the confirmation. Regarding the switching of pronouns mid-
lyric, I can give you many examples: I ran a quiz on this very topic
some time back! Here is a link to the results post of that quiz:

Thanks and warm regards,
