Hi y'all,

Tushar-ji had an interesting question about the song from "Jaal".
Extending this question we come up with the following - can you
list songs from Hindi films that have the same basic tune but
different lyrics and singers? Below is an example from the movie
"Shart" [the song "na yeh chaaNd hoga..." has been sung by both
Hemant Kumar and Geeta Dutt and the lyrics are different]. The
song from "Kudrat" ["hameN tum se pyaar kitna..." by Kishore and
Parveen Sultana has the same lyrics and hence cannot be counted].
I believe older movies had this sort of thing but in the newer
movies it the same song (in terms of lyrics) rendered by two
different artists.

Regards
Dinesh

Film: Shart, Music: Hemant Kumar, Lyrics: S.H.Bihari

Hemant Kumar version
--------------------
na yeh chaaNd hoga na taare raheNge
magar ham hamesha tumhaare raheNge
na yeh chaaNd hoga

bichhaD kar chale jaayeN tum se kaheeN
to yeh na samajhna muhabbat naheeN
jahaaN bhi rahe ham tumhaare raheNge
na yeh chaaNd hoga...

zamaana agar kuchh kahe bhi to kya
magar tum na kehna hame bevafaa
tumhaare liye heN tumhaare raheNge
na yeh chaaNd hoga...

yeh hoga sitam ham ne pahle na jaana
bana bhi na tha jal gaya aashiyaana
kahaaN ab muhabbat ke maare raheNge
na yeh chaaNd hoga...

Geeta Dutt version
------------------
na yeh chaaNd hoga na taare raheNge
magar ham hamesha tumhaare raheNge
na yeh chaaNd hoga

nazar DhooNDhti thi jise pa liya he
ummeedoN ke phooloN se daaman bhara he
yeh din ham ko sab din se pyaare raheNge
na yeh chaaNd hoga...

kahooN kya mere dil ka armaan kya he
tumhe har ghaDi choomna chaahta he
kahaaN tak bhala ji ko maare raheNge
na yeh chaaNd hoga...

sahaara mile jo tumhaare haNseeN ka
bhula deNge ham sara gham zindagi ka
tumhaare liye heN tumhaare raheNge
na yeh chaaNd hoga...

No these two version don't have the same lyrics. Too lazy to type
the two lyrics. The basic tune is same but the PS version has excellent
classical touch.

"Munimji" had one song, onne version by Kishore and the other by Lata

Since Kishore's version is all too well-known, I'll save the bandwidth

Lata's:

Jeevan ke safar main rahi
milte hai bichhad jane ko
aur de jaate hai yaadein
tanhai main tadapaneko

Ab saath na guzrenge hum
lekin yeh fizaa raaton ki
dohraaya karegi har dum
is pyaar ke afsaane ko..

That's all I remember

You're quite right. I dusted off the old tape containing PS' version
of this song and the lyrics were different from KK's version. Thanks
for pointing out the error. Thanks to Sudarshana Bhat for his list.
I don't know if all the songs in that list satisfy the constraint of
the lyrics being different for the same basic tune. The "StarCat" had
an interesting addition. Thanks for the info.

Cheers
Dinesh
