hona hi tha and this one). About Sunidhi, the only songs I have heard of
her
are from Mast. But going by the voice and singing style, I can say that
most
of the song is in fact sung by Jaspinder and Sunidhi probably sings just
one
or two lines in it. Can anyone confirm/correct this?
You couldn't be more wrong. In fact it is the other way round. The whole
song is by Sunidhi and only a few lines by Jaspinder. They have very
distinct voices. I am surprised there is any confusion.
Here are the lyrics(from Indiafm). Marked is where Jaspinder's sings.
Music director: Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy
Lyricist: Rahat Indori
Singers: Shankar Mahdevan, Sunidhi Chauhan, Jaspinder Narula
Bumbro bumbro, shyam rang bumbro
Bumbro bumbro, shyam rang bumbro
Aaye ho kis bagiya se, oh oh tum
Bumbro bumbro, shyam rang bumbro
Bumbro bumbro, shyam rang bumbro
Aaye ho kis bagiya se, oh oh tum
Bhanwre o shyam bhanwre, khushiyon ko saath laaye
Mehndi ki raat mein tum, leke saugat aaye
Ho, kaajal ka rang laaye, nazrein utaarne ko
Baaghon se phool laaye, raste sanwaarne ko
Haan, kaajal ka rang laaye, nazrein utaarne ko
Baaghon se phool laaye, raste sanwaarne ko
Haan mehndi ki chhaon mein geet sunayein bumbro
Jhoome nachein saaz gaayein, jashn manayein bumbro
Bumbro bumbro, shyam rang bumbro
Bumbro bumbro, shyam rang bumbro
Aaye ho kis bagiya se, oh oh tum
Khil khil ke laal hua mehndi ka rang aise
(Jaspinder)
Gori hatheliyon pe khilte ho phool jaise
(Jaspinder)
Bumbro bumbro bumbro bumbro
Ae, khil khil ke laal hua mehndi ka rang aise
Gori hatheliyon pe khilte ho phool jaise
Yeh rang dhoop ka, yeh rang chhaon ka hai
Mehndi ka rang nahin, maa ki duaaon ka hai
Is mehndi ka rang hai sachcha, baaki saare jhoote
Haathon se ab mehndi ka yeh rang kabhi na chhoote
O bumbro bumbro, shyam rang bumbro
Bumbro bumbro, shyam rang bumbro
Aaye ho kis bagiya se, oh oh tum
Bumbro bumbro, shyam rang bumbro
Bumbro bumbro, shyam rang bumbro
Aaye ho kis bagiya se, oh oh tum
Chanda ki paalki mein dil ki muraad layi
(Jaspinder)
Jannat ka noor leke mehndi ki raat aayi
(Jaspinder)
Mehndi ki raat aayi
Chanda ki paalki mein dil ki muraad layi
Jannat ka noor leke mehndi ki raat aayi
Rukh pe saheliyon ke, khwabon ki roshni hai
(Sunidhi
+ Jaspinder)
bumbro
Chaand sitaare lekar aaye raat ki daali, bumbro
Haan bumbro bumbro shyam rang bumbro
Bumbro bumbro, shyam rang bumbro
Aaye ho kis bagiya se, oh oh tum
Aaye ho kis bagiya se
Bumbro bumbro, oh oh tum
Bumbro bumbro, oh oh tum
Aaye ho kis bagiya se
Bumbro bumbro, oh oh
Bumbro bumbro
Aaye ho kis bagiya se
Oh oh tum
Bumbro bumbro
Bumbro bumbro
Bumbro bumbro
Bumbro bumbro

Another nice chorus song by Sunidhi Chauhaan and Jaspinder Narula (I think it
is J. Narula) is from the recent film Aaghaaz, "Nau nau lakhaan waalaa haar
pehnaa hai churaii lo..". Another song from the same film by her (S. Chauhaan)
is "Dosti ho gayii, pyaar mein..".
Sunidhi Chauhaan does have an individual style and unique voice.
Happy listenings.

today i attended a baraat in which the band played so many songs of
fifties that it was a nostalgiac trip down memory lane. i enjoyed every
moment of two hours fifteen minutes of baraat covering two kilometers.
and all this is instrumental.
i wonder how indians carry baraat in foreign countries.
do you get band walas playing oldies.
do people spontaneously dance to the tune, putting monkeys to shame, yet
enjoying.
are there loudspeakers and crackers and lightings.
does the groom ride a ghodi (mare)

I beg to differ.
Most of the song is sung by Jaspinder. Even the way the singers
are listed below is incorrect---at least the CD/cassettes I have
list Jaspinder before Sunidhi.
But, it's the voices that give it away...compare Jaspinder's
voice in Bumbro to hers in Mehboob Mere or her other hits...all
are more 'gutteral', stronger than Sunidhi's voice.
I checked out the site you mentioned...the singers aren't listed
next to the lyrics for Bumbro...did you assign them or do you
have some other source?

Me too. :-)
Sunidhi's voice is quite sweet and higher-pitched and
still a bit 'kachhi'--very nice...been a fan of hers
since she won way back when on TV...anyone else remember her in
"Shastra"...her debut, I think.
But, her voice doesn't quite match Jaspinder's 'folksy' one in
this song.
If you have some other source, I'd be interested. I think this is
the first time since the songs came out I've heard that
Jaspinder *didn't* sing most of the lyrics.

I haven't heard the entire song so I cannot comment on it (all I've
heard is clips in the countdown shows). However in an interview,
Jaspinder N claims that she sung most of the song.
On a related note, there seems to be quite a bit of hostility between
the two (probably because of a shared niche). They both take potshots
at one another and in a recent program Sunidhi did an imitation of
JN (not quite good-natured IMO). Personally I prefer Sunidhi's singing.
She has more variety, IMO.
I think there is a wealth of singers currently (both male and female)
and all that is needed is composers who can make good use of their
abilities.

I was listening to Mera yaar dildaar a few days ago and that's when it
struck me that it is indeed Jaspinder who does most of the singing in Bumbro
Bumbro. Their voices might be distinct but I confess that I somehow couldn't
make out that there is another female singer in the song until I heard it
carefully. What made me finally to pitch in Jaspinder's favor was the
singing style.
When I was watching the movie with a friend of mine, he asked me to guess
the singer knowing well that I was a big fan of Sunidhi during the days of
DD's "Meri awaaz suno" about 5-6 years ago. I said Jaspinder. But he said
it's in fact Sunidhi. I didn't know either of them well. So I just went with
it until now.

Now, that is no indication. Jaspinder is older than her and entered the
film music scene before Sunidhi.

No, I got the lyrics from the site. I heard the song and assigned the
singers. Having heard Sunidhi in Mast, Jungle, Fiza and Jaspinder in
Fiza, Bichhoo, Hadhh Kar Di Aapne, Fiza, Pyar to Hona hi thha etc etc..
it was easy. And Jaspinder is too highpitched and shrill to be missed.
And Sunidhi is very gutteral and throaty. Even at high pitches she
sounds in control. She is a distinct voice and quite pleasant. Like
Jaspinder, she never sounds shrill.

After I read your post I searched for more info on this song and the
singers:
http://www.b4utv.com/music/rhydhun14mission.htm says:
No doubt that Bumbro is the best of the album sung by Shankar, Jaspinder
Narula, Sunidhi and thank god there's more of Sunidhi in it
and http://music.indya.com/reviews/film/missionkashmir.html and
http://www.hritikroshan.com/mission/audioreview.htm say:
We can almost hear the echoes and resonances of the Valley
in the throaty khanak of Sunidhi Chauhan, Jaspinder Nirula and Shankar
Mahadevan in the catchy and captivating wedding song Bumbro. Sunidhi
kind
of
out-sings the other two powerfully-chorded singers.
and
http://www.dhadkan.com/cgi-bin/dhadkan/albumlongrev.cgi?albumID=824&jnd=F
doesn't even mention Jaspinder in the song(since she is hardly in the
song:)).
and http://www.apnaguide.com/review/15979 goes:
The real singing stars are Sunidhi Chauhan (how much talent she has!) and
Shankar himself, who does a fairly good job with the Kashmiri
pronunciation.
I am say 200% sure about the voices I allocated to the singers.

Older singers get listed first???
(I don't think I even want to go there) :-)

We'll just have to agree to disagree...200%

"No" is a great answer to a question that poses two alternatives.
Whichever way things turn out, you can claim that the answer was
right. Interestingly, "Yes" also means the same thing in such
cases!
>......................................................Like
>Jaspinder, she never sounds shrill.
Do you mean "Like" or "Unlike"? That is, do you mean that
both are shrill or that only Jaspinder is shrill? (I realize
that "No" or "Yes" will be a "good" answer. :))

All very interesting: 200%, two signatures, and two posts.
What do you make of an election in which the proportion of
voters who cast their ballot is 200 percent?!

Plot is thickening; both parties are claiming 200 percent of
the votes. Looks like the question at issue is such that
there has to be a winner. Is it going to be Jayalalitha
or Sonia? Oops, I meant Jaspinder or Sunidhi?
Or is it really the case that there has to be a winner?
Can two different versions of the song be floating around?
