Our beloved music lover friend Priya Gainneos is no more. Priya was
extremely active on Sangeet Ke Sitare, Hamraforums. I am posting it
on RMIM as well since some RMIMers know her.
Priya met with an accident in Cochin last week and her funeral was
held on Aug 15. The news came in a local paper as well.
She was huge fan of old songs in general; and Asha and Noorjehan in
particular. She was kind enough to share her rare collection with
many of us.
I just got off the phone with Priya's childhood friend. Priya's
parents haven't been able to come to terms with this tragedy.
At this sad moment, lets respect their privacy and not
bombard them with inquiries.
I just can't believe that such a lively personality and great music
lover is taken away from us at such a young age.If you want to send
a condolence message / tribute, email me and I will pass it on.
Srinivas.
Ganti let the tributes come onto the forums. We can collect them later
and pass them on to her parents. Let them be preserved for posterity
in the archives.
P, I still don't believe this, I never imagined I would be collecting
obituries for you one day. We will miss you terribly.
You will be very sorely missed Priya Gainneos....rest in eternal
peace.
SKS -Y's archives are full of your passionate posts on Noorjehan and
Asha. What a huge loss for all of us here :(
I am told she was the only child of her parents: may god them courage
to pick up their life again..

This is a very very sad loss to music lovers. I used to know her
through our interactions at Hamaraforums. Despite having such an
impressive collection of Asha Bhonsle's & Noorjahan's songs, she used
to thank me as enthusiastically as a child getting her first toy
whenever I managed to share a bengali song of Asha Bhonsle with her
(that she surprisingly did not have). As for sharing the goodies that
she already had, she was immensely large-hearted. Hamaraforums is
replete with hundreds & hundreds of uploads of songs that she had so
generously & painstakingly uploaded.
May her soul rest in peace.
Regards-Archisman.

till morning I was praying this news to be false.
Terrible news. She has been so much active in all HFM forums and her
contribution to HFM has been IMMENSE !
As I person I interacted just few times with her. First Time I
specially messaged her on HF Chat just to appreciate her work on NJ
and Asha. I was eager to know how as an south Indian she became HUGE
fan of NJ and Asha.
Just go through her writeups she was really friendly with all.
Didnt knew she was only only child of her parents. Yeh Soch kar hi
Man aur kharab hota hai. oh god.. Aisa kyon !
Abhi tau bilkul bhi theek nehi hoga parents ko contact karna. Haan
agar koi aas paas ka nazdeeki jaankar ho unse jaroor hum conatact kar
sakte hian.
With prayers for her family.
Rabb hum sab per mehar rakhna !

Such passionate and generous persons are but few and her absence will
be keenly felt by all music lovers who interacted with her either
personally or electronically.
My condolences to her parents who must be the worst affected of all.
In deepest remorse.

This is terrible news. Those conversations we all had on Sangeet Ke
Sitarey were just fantastic! Samik, Priya, Kammall Mustafa, Srinivas
Ganti, Ummer and so many others. In fact, there was Satishji who
participated as well. There was so much of camaraderie, and a wealth
of information was exchanged. It used to be fun to pull Priya's leg
and purposely make fun of Noorjehan at times. I extend my condolences
to her family.

This is shocking and saddening. A person so full of life and music is
no more. May her soul rest in peace. May God give strength to her
family, friends and beloved cats to cope with this loss. I came in
touch with her at Sangeet Ke Sitare group in the year 2002 and we had
long discussions about Noor Jehan's music. Thereafter we shifted to
Hamaraforums. Whenever I uploaded any song of Noor Jehan that she had
not heard she would be full of immenhse joy. She always showed great
humility in sharing her music collection with others.

Request to all posters. Please do NOT post links to sites which
require a login specially site such as hamaraforums.. I have registered
but still get grief trying to access the site. One way to share information
is
to copy and paste if it is not too much trouble. Thanks for your
understanding.

Ritu, your tribute is so touching! It brings back a whole flood of
memories about those wonderful conversations that all of us have had
on SKS. There was so much of very friendly leg-pulling, many jokes and
at the same time, that forum was a whole treasure-house of valuable
information. To think of it, I was active on SKS almost 4-5 years ago!
Speak of nostalgia. It's also so nice to take a look again at all
those wonderful wallpapers that Priya used to make. And she possibly
had every song sung by Asha and Noorjehan. Perhaps, she'll rank as one
of the most enthusiastic fans that these two divas have ever had.
My condolences to her family, and my sincerest wish that her soul rest
in peace.

Absolutely. All those memories are coming back to me as well.

(Asha in Vachan)
I will be always grateful to Priya for sending me several Marathi and
Bengali songs of Asha.
I discovered a new dimension to Asha's voice because of these songs.
I found this lovely post from Priya in Hamaraforums.
"Yes Ashaji is many singers in one--a singer for all moods and all
times.
But with me the first songs I heard of Asha's were the ones with Op
Nayyar and also RD Burman. Mainly the naughty, sprightly, playful
numbers or the western ones. These songs have an eternal market (or so
HMV is deluded) and so I grew up hearing mainly these. The only other
songs I heard those days were her non film ghazals and geets. So later
listening to more of her semiclassical and classical numbers and some
of the rarer numbers with mds like Jaidev and Khayyam has been a
treat. But the best songs I like hearing nowadays because each one is
a new discovery are the old 50s songs where Asha was just developing
her style--all those songs for low budget films or lesser known mds--
the same kind of songs that went to Lata but are less preserved in
archives for they were not the films that made news. But these are
numbers which I feel were recorded at a stage before 'the Great
Divide' by which I mean that mindset which stated that all serious
heroine songs went to Lata and all Western or sensuous or playful
numbers went to Asha--a mindset that eventually sort of set their
styles.
The early Asha before all these demarcations is rarely given to the
public and so finding such treasures is always special."
I am really shocked by this news.
May God Rest Priya Ji's Soul In Peace
Amen
