movie : Mamta
starring : Suchitra Sen, Ashok Kumar and Dharmendra
music : Roshan (I think)

Rahe na rahe hum mehaka karenge
ban ke kali ban ke saba bage wafa mein

khoye hum aise kya hai milna
kya bichadna nahin hai yaad humko
gooche mein dil ke jab se aaye
sirf dil ki zameen hai yaad humko
issi sarzameen issi sarzameen pe
hum to rahenge ban ke kali ban ke saba bage wafe mein...

jab hum na honge tab hamari
khaakh pe tum rukoge chalte chalte
ashkon se bheegi chandni mein
ik sada si sunoge chalte chalte
waheen pe kaheen waheen pe kaheen
hum tumse milenge ban ke kali ban ke saba bage wafe mein...

mausam koi ho is chaman mein
rang banke rahege in fizaa mein (I really don't remember this stanza..)

movie : Aarti
starring : Meena Kumari, Pradeep Kumar and Ashok Kumar
music : Roshan (I think!!)

Aapne yaad dilaya to mujhe yaad aaya
ke mere dil pe pada tha koi gham ka saaya

mein bhi kya cheez hoon khaya tha kabhi teer koi
dard ab jaa ke utha chot lage daer hui
tumko humdard jo paaya to mujhe yaad aaya
ke mere dil pe.....

mein zameen par hoon na samajha na parakhna chaaha
aasmaan par yeh kadam jhoom ke rakhna chaaha
aaj jo sar ko jhukaya to mujhe yaad aaya
ke mere dil pe.....

maine bhi soch liya saath nibhaane ke liye
door tak aaoongi mein tumko manane ke liye
dil ne ehsaas dilaya to mujhe yaad aaya
ke mere dil pe ....

(the last stanza is sung by Lata Mangeshkar...)

As has been pointed out, the MD is Roshan. Interestingly, two other
songs share a similar "metre" as this one. (To recognize the metre,
simply blank out the words and hum the song with variation in the
stress and accent). I am referring to "Yehi hain tamanna tere ghar
samne" by Rafi (Madan Mohan) from Aap ki Parchaeeyan and "Saagar
Kinare dil ye pukare" by KK/Lata (RD Burman) from Sagar.

It's an interesting game, this "metre" business. By making a
slight change in it and with different words, you can create
an illusion of a completely different tune!

I think there are two more songs which deserve intereest on the same tune as

' saagar kinare dil ye pukare' from saagar

much similar to thee above one are

' hume aur jeene ki chaahat na hoti' from Agar tum na hote

and

' hume raaston ki zaroorat na hogi' from Naram garam

All the three have similar starts if you dwell a little on them

Incidentally, this song is not the original!
The original score is "Thandi hawAen, leherake gAyen ..." Lata (Solo) composed
by Sachin Dev Burman. Roshan used the same metre to create a masterpiece .
Two masterpieces out of the same metre inspired RD Burman to complete the
hattrick.
(RD did attempt the same metre in a B grade movie - prior to Sagar. This song
was by Asha Bhonsle and the movie starred Utpal Dut.)

Hey! Rajan has mentioned this above |

I find it difficult to place this song with the ones above, especially when it
comes to the word "ki".

Another song along the above "metre" is "Thandi hawaen, lehrake aaen......."
composed by S.D.Burman. In fact SD admitted (on JaiMala, remember that
programme on vBharathi on Sat evening and Sun afternoon ?) having copied the
tune from Roshan and said that he was rathered honoured to copy such a great
MD. Or was it the other way round ? (Roshan copying from SD?) Anyway, one of
them admitted having copied the tune from the other. I think it was SD who
copied since Mamta is a pretty old film.

Sami Mohammed (A Naushad fan)....... who ranks Roshan and SDBurman #2&3 among
MDs !
