You're right, but I am used to thinking of Gujaratis as Hindus(No flames).
I heard long time ago that she was somehow connected to Hindu family, but
then again I could be wrong. Anyone have any info about her parents, etc...?

Parveen Babi is connected to the family of the Nawab (maybe different
title, ruler in any case) of Junagadh. I believe she is his daughter borne
by his mistress ("keep" as they say).

It seemed to be a common practice back till the early sixties to
replace one's some what mundane name with a colorful "filmi" name....hence
Yousuf Khan became Dilip Kumar. Similarly Madhubala ( I dunno what her actual
name was), and (perhaps) Nargis, Mme. Noor Jehan, Pran, and Ajit.
In fact, two of the very popular heroes back in the fifties in
Pakistan had chosen Santosh Kumar and Darpan as their "filmi " names....
Can somebody come up with other such examples ? BTW, isn't Om
Prakash a muslim too? (I may have got the name wrong, but I'm referring to
the guy who played the role of Amitabh's duddoo (grandpa) in Laawaris or Namak
Halal)

I dunno about India...but one of the Pakistan's most successful
heroine had picked up a relatively muslim name of Shabnam (she's a bengali

Isn't Kamal's original name written Kamalahassan. Didn't he change it to

Haasan is not his last name. Its just part of his first name.
Kamalahaasan is a tamilian Iyengar community person. I know so cos he is

Like Salman Khans father a muslim, mother a hindu.
So, if you go by just father's last name. Sanjay dutt is a hindu. But a child certainly learns what not from her mother, so he is a muslim too.
Whatever, I don't think he is a devout muslim and if you talk about hindu, what kind of hindu because hinduism as a religion got so many sub branches. Hindu as a term for region, then he and all the muslims, even pakistanis and bangladeshis all are hindus. If by hindu, sb mean sanatan dharmi, no he and most people who claim to be are not.
But, he is a terrorist for sure and he was punished for it too. Certainly had links wid many terrorists like Abu Salem, Dawood, etc..
