Does anyone remember any songs (or even quality shers) with the word
"luft" in them ?
"luft" means levity (pretty close and/or sure).

I thought the word is "Lutf" meaning joy, fun ..
or are you referring to some different word?

Yes, you are right. Upon more investigation, I realize that the word is
"lutf" and not "luft".
Incidentally, "luft" _is_ a german word meaning "air". And thats how, I
think the name Lufthansa [Luft + hansa] comes from, where "hansa" is
the hindi (possibly german too) word meaning "swan". I guess thats
where the confusion came from.
So, any songs with the word "lutf" in it......
Thanks,

Could it be that it is "lutf" - to derrive pleasure? I have not come
across "luft". Someone else can confirm that. If it is "lutf", here is a
sher which immediately comes to mind
zulm yeh hai ke hai yakta teri beganaravi
lutf yeh hai ke main ab tak tujhe apna samjhoon
- Ahmed Nadeem Qasmi(from 'Sajda')
yakta - rigid; beganaravi - indifference; lutf - pleasure

NOW you are talking! As soon as I saw your post, the wonderful song from Rustam
Sohrab came to mind. But upon close examination, I saw the word spelt "luft"
and therefore shouldered arms thinking that it was some Urdu word that I didn't
know.
>So, any songs with the word "lutf" in it......
In addition to the song from Rustam Sohrab, the famous Amitabh dialogue in
Kaalia just before the song "Tum saath ho jab apne, duniya ko dikha
denge..." has the word "lutf" in it. I don't rem. the exact dialogue, but
it ended as follows:
"...kya LUTF janaaza uTHne ka, jab maut na aae jawani me..."
It'll be great if someone cud post the complete sher (perhaps it's not a sher,
but 4 lines in all). Apna Bachhan ekdum style se deliver kara hai ye lines :-)
Coming back to the Rustam Sohrab song, it's one of my favourites with wonderful
music by Sajjad. I love the interludes and the chorus in this song. Here are the
complete lyrics as the song hasn't made it to the ISB yet. The word "lutf" is
included in the last stanza.
Movie: Rustom Sohrab
Filmed on: ???
Lyrics: Quamar Jalalabadi
Music: Sajjad Hussain
Singers: Manna Dey, Saadat Khan, Mohammed Rafi
Phir tumhari yaad aaee ai sanam, ai sanam
Hum na bhoolenge tumhe Allah quasam
Allah quasam, Allah quasam, Allah quasam
Manna Dey:
Haal-e-dil yaar ko likhun kaise
Haath dil se juda nahin hota
Kis tarhe unko bataen apna GHam, ai sanam
Hum na bhoolenge tumhe Allah quasam
(Is the above stanza based on an older and quite famous Urdu sher ?)
Saadat Khan:
Tum mere dil me, meri aankhon me ho
Tum mere KHwaabon, meri aahon me ho
Door rehkar bhi juda honge na hum, ai sanam
Hum na bhoolenge tumhe Allah quasam
Rafi:
Jabse dekhi soorat unki, hum shama jalaana bhool gae
Ruqsaar ki surqui kya kahie, phoolon ka fasaana bhool gae
Bas itni kahani hai apni, jab aankh mili behosh hue
Daaman se hawa tum kar na sake, hum hosh me aana bhool gae
Kitne pyaare hain mohabbat ke sitam, ai sanam
Kya LUTF aa raha thha
Kya LUTF aa raha thha
Kya LUTF aa raha thha, dilbar ki dillagi se
Nazren bhi thhi mujhi par, parda bhi thha mujhsi se
Kya hasin tasvir thhi, Allah quasam, ai sanam
Hum na bhoolenge tumhe Allah quasam
Allah quasam, Allah quasam, Allah quasam
Phir tumhari yaad aaee ai sanam, ai sanam
Hum na bhoolenge tumhe Allah quasam

I remember watching this song on TV. The main characters are just
'nihaar'-ing each other [:)] and the song was sung by some 'khana-
badosh' type of people. And if I am not mistaken by some other song,
I believe the heroine was 'Nirupa Roy' (of 'filmi Maa' fame !) and
the hero was (arrrrhhhh !) Pradip Kumar/Ajit/etcetra. :)
A beautiful song indeed !!
What about the Rafi song (gHazal) with music by Madan Mohan:
"Shamma men Taaqat Kahaan Jo Ek Parwaane Men Hai
Lutf Jalne Men Nahin, Jal-Jal Ke Mar Jaane Men Hai"
Sanjeev
: "Shamma men Taaqat Kahaan Jo Ek Parwaane Men Hai
: Lutf Jalne Men Nahin, Jal-Jal Ke Mar Jaane Men Hai"
If you are still looking out for more, there is:
"kisi ki sharbati aankhen basa ke aankhon mein
bina piye hue lutf-e-sharaab dekh liya"
from G.M.Durrani's "falak ke chaand ka hum ne jawaab dekh liya/
zameen ki god mein kal mehtaab dekh liya"
