Is there a movie where there is a hindustani vocal jugalbandi? I
would also appreciate if you can suggest me CD's of hindustani vocal
jugalbandi.
Thanks,
Kalyan
I think a "normal" jugalbandi represents two artistes
complementing each other. OTOH, whatever "jugalbandis"
one came across in films were sort of competitions.
"Baiju Bawra" --- the climax song based on Raaga Desi.
"Basant Bahar" --- the competition between Bharat
Bhushan and Parashuram (?) -- "Ketaki gulaab joohi.."
The other type of "jugalbandis" one can think of are
guru-shishya songs. In "Meri Soorat Teri AnkheN", the
jugalbandi betweeb Ashok Kumar and Kanhaiyalal --
"Poochho Na maiN ne kaise rain bitaayi". There is also
a bhairavi jugalbandi of this type in (probably)
"Rani Roopmati" --- "BaaT chalat nayee chunri...".

What does "Baat" mean here?

Dear Kalyan,
In a recently released cassette of HMV titled 'Malkauns', alongwith
some classical songs is also a song sung by Bhimsen Joshi & Jasraj.
The name of the movie is (I think) 'Birbal, My Friend' and the year of
release is 1973. The bandish of the song is the famous 'rang-raliaan
karat....'
The song is sung in drut teentaal and is replete with a lot of
'taans'.
Regards-Archisman.
The word is "BaaT", not "baat" as in "baat~cheet".
I think the word means "raasta". "BaaT dekhna" =
"raasta dekhna, intezaar karna". This is what I
understand. Corrections, if any, will be welcome.

"baaT johnaa/nihaaranaa" is another phrase that means the
same thing as baaT dekhanaa. Here's a lovely song (for
which I deeply thank Vish Krishnan):
deep bujhe do akhiyaa.N morii
phir bhii baaT nihaaruu.N torii
man basiyaa, kabahu.N miloge? tum milayaa sukh hoe ...
ham jaage.n jag soe rii aalii ...
